The Pond was transformed after our snowfall yesterday. It was an extremely cold Sunday. After attending a Jamaica Pond Historical Society lecture, I walked at the Pond as the sun was setting. Frigid as it was, I found it exhilarating to be out in the pure fresh air. The snow was pristine at the Pond, and the colors of the sunset glow changed by the minute as I walked around this cove and then home.
We live near the pointed steeple which can just be seen on the opposite shore. From here, Jamaica Plain looks like a Swiss village or something, but it's an illusion. It's an urban neighborhood about four miles from the middle of Boston.
We feel very lucky to live two short blocks from this Pond. Thanks to the visionary 19th century park designer Frederick Law Olmsted, it is a park--much beloved in our neighborhood.
