Today was gloomy out, a combination of wet snow and rain. Our yellow kitchen is so cheery on a morning like this. From where I sit at the kitchen table, I can see into this pantry, which I have arranged with vintage (and some new) china. I think it looks rather like a Welsh dresser, only it's built-in.
I love pantries and was thrilled when I moved here in 1985 that there were two pantries. There's another large one on the other side of the kitchen and also a large, built-in china cabinet in the room that was originally the dining room, although we don't use it as a dining room. I love how they built in the Edwardian era.
Before I retired, I read a study of retirement by the Gerontology Department at the University of Massachusetts/Boston. The people they studied did not all like every aspect of retirement, but one thing almost everyone loved was having a leisurely breakfast, and so do I. I always hated rushing out of the house in the morning to get to work. Now I make sure we have a leisurely breakfast almost every day, and I linger over my pot of tea and converse with Peter, as the new day lies ahead of us. It's one of the best times of most days, actually.
