Today was a crazy day of weather, even for New England, which is known for changeable weather. At breakfast we heard on the news that a sudden drop in temperature around dawn had caused black ice to form, which caused numerous accidents in the morning commute, some involving multiple cars. By afternoon it was over 50F, as had been predicted, and it felt a bit like April. Tomorrow we are expected to have the biggest snowstorm of the winter so far, with about a foot of snow in eastern Massachusetts.
I am looking forward to a cozy day inside, looking out the windows at the snow. On Friday we'll probably go out and walk in the white landscape.
Two years ago at this time we were on our way to a record 110 inches of snow for the winter. We had storm after storm, and it was extremely cold, so the snow didn't melt between storms. It was snow on snow on snow. We watched in astonishment as the snow piled up around the city.
The Pond was a wonderland. The snow stayed pristine, so it was a pure white world. It was my first winter of being retired. If I had had to get to work, it would have been agony, but I was free to enjoy it. We piled on layers and layers of clothing and walked around the Pond almost every day when it wasn't actively snowing. Often there was hardly anyone else there, a silent white world. I will never forget how beautiful it was.
Wow that's a lot of snow but very pretty. I think the UK would collapse if we ever had that much! It causes chaos if we even get 1 inch of the stuff :)
