These are the leaves from pohutukawa trees on our section. The pohutukawa are hardy, salt and dry tolerant native NZ trees. They have lovely red flowers in December and January and because of this, they are often called the NZ Christmas tree. They look best enlarged.
Smashing shot! When my grandmother spent six months in NZ (many years ago now) she would regale me with stories about the local flora and fauna and I can recall her having a great fondness for Pohutukawa trees.
Great shot, love the colours and textures and the shine on the leaves. We have NZ Christmas trees here too and they're so lovely in December aren't they?
