We came across on the ferry to the South Island today - a pretty smooth crossing, considering how windy it was. Tonight we are at a DOC camp (Department of Conservation) in the bush near the lake at St Arnaud. It is just gorgeous and we have a little private campsite surrounded by trees. We can hear the river nearby and the damp beech forest is full of little plants and even some tiny red fungi.
