Don't be so hard on yourself, you have to consider his equipment for these shots which consist of a pump that times drops as well as triggers the flashes and the camera. This is not about photography its about understanding timing of equipment and setting the systems so they are all linked.

I have issues with this type of photography.. Over years I have captured many crowns, which are difficult to capture.. Using his set up he could knock out shots like that in seconds.. Its not about being a fantastic photographer.. This to me is not about photography, its about equipment.. Now if he could pull any of that using the cameras and equipment (or lack of) with what we use on a day to day basis.. then I would think he is amazing.. Having a kit worth a fortune means you have a good kit.. We could all capture shots like that with his set up..
