Same Scene, Different Time

July 12th, 2011
I was thinking of starting a new project. Where I will take a picture of the same place once a month for a year and eventually comprise a series of photographs demonstrating the changes in that scene. I'm having a difficult time trying to find a suitable place. I generally want a place that is going to have a few people in it and a place that will have noticeable seasonal changes also. Has anybody done this? I'd love to see your results...

Ok, I've done a whole load of shots of the same bench in Trafalgar Square since last September, pretty much guaranteed to get people in a spot like that. I actually live in Leeds and have been trying to find something similar but not found it yet! Good luck with your project!

I did this with the field, but only for two months. Really fascinated to watch it change, and so quickly! I must get down there again soon as the crops are now all dried and ready for harvesting!

July 12th, 2011
i did the same kind of thing with my veg patch. i guess i like to watch things grow!
July 12th, 2011
@rich57 ooh i love these! what a great idea!

This is a really fun project -- I did this out of our bedroom window for a spring season and got four very different photos! This was before 365, you can see it on my Flickr page:

Yes @rich57 I remember this bench. Fantastic.

Thanks @smevvy I shall go for a walk this afternoon and try and find a spot.
July 12th, 2011
What a brilliant idea!
July 12th, 2011
@miley89 Great idea Miley, ive been tracking the seasons at Epping Forest. I didnt think to do it monthly.. I might try this xx
July 12th, 2011
It is a great idea, I will give it a go :) now to think of a spot!
July 12th, 2011
I've been taking a photo of the same tree outside my house every month. The original idea was to take it from exactly the same spot - but I started to get bored with that, so have been taking it from different angles! lol

July 12th, 2011
I did this last month. Not the result I had hoped for (due to sun position) but hey...

July 12th, 2011
@rich57 Awesome job. Love it!
July 12th, 2011
I have done quite a few, not posted here though. One is of a bus station, same day of the week same hour through out a year. A bench in the park, certain place in the park, the gardeners in the park in the boat cleaning the lake, a certain yard with a tree I pass by often, the view from my kitchen window with the Margosa tree (that alas fell and is not there any more), and some more. I love such series and the subtle changes

Here is one simple that I did posted here

and also with this building in Taipei:

Feb 2011 (2nd Time)

July 12th, 2011
ooh what a fab idea,i take a lot of pictures from my front doorstep(it's great for sunsets in the spring and seeing the snow on the field in winter) so i might endeavor to do one pic from there each month,to carch the changes in the trees, cars parked, people walking the dog etc,it also means that at least once a month i don't have to think about what my picture will be for the day as it will be already set,i shall start it on the first of august as there is a 1st every month without fail ;)
July 12th, 2011
@rich57 have you found the steps by the building in the centre? Brain is shot and can't remember what it is, there's statues in the square, a huge chessboard, it's not too far from the General Infirmary .

July 12th, 2011
@voodoochild Oh yeah that's outside the library and art gallery. Posted a couple of shots from that area recently. Hmm, might just go back and look for a spot. Cheers!

July 12th, 2011
@eliserose781 - I love the leaves/fence pictures. For some reason, pictures of fences always catch my attention.

@ylsiak That is an awesome idea! :)

I like this idea. I am taking a series of photos with a plant that gets really huge every summer - about 7 feet tall. But not quite the same idea.
