Absolutely. I just started this year myself. I appreciate any tips or hints that experienced people give me, but essentially it's your project, and you post whatever you want to. If you follow the discussion boards, you'll get lots of different ideas, there are themes and competitions. I hope you have lots of fun with your project
Yes : ) I'm trying to focus on capturing a bit about my day rather than, 'Would a magazine buy this!?' (because they won't). At the end of the year I want to see a story about my year.
Take the best photos you can of the things you want to take the photos of!
Absolutely! Have fun and just take what you want to take. The point of this project is to have fun and be able to look back on your pictures that captured bits of your daily life.
Don't let some of the discussion threads scare you away. There are those on here who believe that only top-quality, professional grade, never-done-before pictures should be posted and have all kinds of angst-y things to rant about. Ignore them. This is not a professional photo gallery; it's your project, filled with snapshots of your life, what you like, etc. It's a great way to photoblog yourself, and in the process hopefully pick up tips and tricks to become a better photographer.
depends on what you're talking about. for your 365 project or daily life? of course! have fun, document your life and your memories. it's NOT okay if you're purporting to be a photographer, especially if you're charging someone for your work. :)
Ummm, yes!!!!! This is a place to learn, grow, document, reflect, and enjoy day to day life, more importantly, your life, the way you see it. Some of my favorite photos on here are what some people would call 'snap shots', glimpses of everyday life, sometimes simple, sometimes mundane but for each of us, enjoyable none the less. I shot whatever it is that I see, some days are harder than others, but between my kids and my job, I see a lot, and shot what I see, some photos I think are good, others are just snap shots, so don't be ashamed if you feel your photos are not up to 'par', it is after all, your project, and your life, we are just lucky enough that you allow us in to catch a glimpse.
I sometimes wonder if there is anyone here that isn't a wonderful photographer. But I started this project not to become a photographer, but to have fun and simply get in the habit of taking more pictures. I think that it is great to just take photos for fun, and not worry about quality. Let this project be for you whatever you want it to be!
@thelazyfairy its whatever floats your boat really.. but i think after a few months of doing this, you'll start to look at your images and try to challenge yourself to take better images :)
This thread is a good reminder to actually do just that. "have fun and not fret".
I'm a terrible perfectionist and I get very anxious that my photos are just not as good as they should be, or as I'd like them to be. Which is ridiculous really.
Having said that, I usually LOVE every minute of it... just every now and then I have an "off day" of shooting and then the inner critic seems to kick in with a vengeance!
This makes me feel better. I joined to follow my daughter in her photography growth but alas, she did not get her talent from me. I started adding 'snap shots' because I thought it was a great idea for a photo journal of my life in 2012. Then I felt bad because they are not 'good' photos. Thank you to the question and all the comforting replies. I will continue to add photos for 'my project'!
@tyansia@karen24712 You both are my kind of photographers. I take pictures for the joy of it. I also find joy in the friendships I have made on this site. It's amazing how much you learn about an individual by subject matter of their photos. It is wonderful to see the world through the eyes of others. So, relax and enjoy your hobby.
@tyansia I would advice to write that in you profile text. In that way potential followers can see what you (don't) expect. Because there are also people who like to improve and learn, but ofcourse that need not to be your goal! Have fun on 365!
I consider myself a "hobbyist." I don't want to make a living at it, I don't want to make money off of it, I just want to have fun with it. Capture some fun or unique moments with friends and family.
Taking and looking at photos just gives me a lot of pleasure. I get to look at so many wonderful things, get to see places that I would never have the opportunity to see, meet some very interesting people (even if it is only online) and enjoy looking at the most simple things in life. You know, when we are so busy we sometimes forget to smell the roses? Do what makes you happy, and, like so many have said, just have fun.

For TJ's sake Quin, stop making me slop my morning cuppa while laughing!!!
