I remember walking through Portland, Oregon one evening and passing a gallery that featured a piece that was simply a toilet seat upon which someone had spilled some paint, asking thousands of dollars. Kind of makes one think they are going in the wrong direction; unless of course one is dribbling paint on toilet seats. :)
I think I've deleted photos like that from my camera when I first started taking pix. Of course, I did not recognize art when I saw it back then. I guess I still don't, at least not for 16,000, sorry. I am still wondering what makes one persons shot of the same thing better than anothers. One factor is popularity, fanbase, which goes along the same lines as Katy's comment.
@tthompsonca I guess I don't understand art either because I would not even pay a dollar for that photograph. I've seen people take photos like that on their phones.
...Oh dear I think my browser has failed.. I'm only getting half a picture... a bit of dark sky above a bit of light sky... can someone tell me what's underneath? Or do I have to pay another 16k for that?!
@sassik Oh my giddy aunt - I had hoped it wasn't true!!
@grizzlysghost I don't think it's anything to do with being that good, it's to do with being famous or just a buyer having too much dosh he needs to launder.
Your shots are so much better .... just got to find the right buyer.... when you find one will you let the rest of us know...?!
I'd be happy to sell one of mine for $5.00 But I think the problem here is that no one gets it because it's upside down. I hate it when they do that to abstract art.
@filsie65@sassik What a hoot! I'm with you. I was so sure it was about to load some amazing thing on the bottom, but, no! @suebarni Oh you're good, you've even got a pink tinge to your bottom, and that's a bargain ;-)
It's all about name recognition. If you were a TV star and started to sell your work, people would probably pay big bucks for just about anything, because it had your name on it.
Eeerm, can someone please explain to me what I'm missing? lol... really? I have a shot like that from today when I accidentally depressed the shutter button! WOOT, GONNA BE RICH!! lol
This thread is killing me…ROFL…yeah….I dont get some 'art' but then again….each to his own I guess….I was thinking of taking a photo of pure black and calling it 'Enchanted Night'…any takers…I will start the bidding at 20 Euro…lol.
It's all about the luck of being recognised imo.
