I just looked at a page of my favs and determined 7/28 were by male photographers, which seems disproportionately high compared to the male/female ratio on 365. And I can think, off the top of my head, of many stellar female photographers I love. What gives? Am I biased in my favs? Does anyone else see the same effect? Are the male photographers I follow that much better at garnering a fav? What do you think? Just curious. :)
Interesting observation Robyn. I looked at my last 28 favs, and mine are 19 female and 9 male. I also noticed that I have quite a few repeat people. I'm going to have to see how those proportions line up with the ratio of females to males that I follow
@rockinrobyn I'm confused... how is 7 out of 28 being male disproportionately high? Didn't you mean low? Because that would make 21 out of 28 of your favs coming from female photographers.
mine is 15 male, 13 female and 5 people have 2 faves each. But that is just one fav page and it might actually be 14 and 14... I didn't go to the individual pages and one of the favs is for a photo by someone with a name that could go either way.
@rockinrobyn I don't think its that off kilter. There are a lot of men on 365. at one point I thought there were possibly more men than women with women being a little more active in commenting, but I could be wrong. I do think I have more female followers than male though.
@jsw0109 I just counted and 39 out of the 167 people I follow are men, so I guess my favs jive with that ratio, more less. Maybe like you said, women more actively comment, leaving impression more women.
@scrivna any chance you know and don't mind to disclose the male/female ratio of active members (or of members, in general)? In the interest of science, er, or at least, in the interest of idle curiosity? :)
Out of 28 on last fav page only 6 were male but one featured twice. This might seem totally disproportionate but many of those commenting on my photos are often female. Notwithstanding this I recently posted a photo of a girl cycling and this attracted an incredible number of male views and comments. I guess that means that I will not be posting many more cycling shots. Once you have learned to ride you never forgot, lol.
@rockinrobyn hey, there's no requirement (or option) to state your gender on the site so I'm afraid I don't have that information to work out the gender split.
We did a discussion here a long time ago and everybody posted their gender. and if I remember correctly, al that time, the men and women were almost equal. Maybe you could search for that...
But maybe the women comment more, being women and love the talking more? who knows...
Peter de Graaff has caused an anomaly on my most recent favs page, where 13 are by women and 15 by men. However, the average over 10 pages is 75.7% women ... and if you disregard that first page it rises to 79%. Amongst the people whom I follow, women outnumber men 3:1 approximately, but it's not always easy to know who's active, dormant or gone for good.
The only conclusion I can draw from all that is that I have a very slight tendency to award favs more readily to the women I follow, but the bias is statistically insignificant.

Last 28 - 10 females and 18 males.
