I'm new on here so my apology's if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it through search. I know that people kind of set their own personal rules but I wondered what people though on posting triptychs or combination images? I have always been incredibly indecisive when it comes to picking my photos and as I couldn't choose I combined by favorite 3 into one image. Is this cheating?
No, not cheating at all! People can see just by looking at it what it is and you're not trying to fool them when you put together a collage. Rather, sometimes that's the best format to tell a story. I enjoy putting them together.
Love yours!! My fav from those is your cat behind the wall! I was sooo indecisive for so long and then got to being more decisive as time went by. One thing that helped me was to get Ace membership, then I had 3 albums lol. Mind you, now my second 2 aren't used as often, but I do have the option :)
I've posted a fair few collages during my time here. Not cheating at all imo as this is your project so therefore your rules. I posted this after months and months of work and wanted it to be shown as one image :o)
Wow this place is quick! Thank you everyone for the replies and kind comments, I am reassured! Think being a newbie I just worry about the conventions and thought maybe people would frown upon a combi as it's not strictly 'one a day', I'm glad they are happily accepted : )
@psychographer That's very cool and an excellent example : ) I so need to start working on one! Guess I should worry less, hadn't even though about combined images like that.
I agree I don't think it's cheating - it's your project to do what you want. I couldn't make up my mind on the water splashes and wanted to record them all - so I did!
I try not to use them too often. It forces me to look at a batch of photos with a more critical eye. But like others who've posted, sometimes a group of photos tell a better and more complete story.
I haven't done any but I was thinking about doing a series with different settings mostly as a guide for myself to see what say changing the depth of field would do.
Here are a couple of my collages. For me, it really depends on the subject. The context of the collage can sometimes be clearer by showing multiple photos...
The only thing that is cheating is to claim someone else's work as your own.
Multiple images can enhance a photo or give extra information as in the one below which I posted yesterday.
Old Industry - New Trading Estate
A view down the Mersey the site of the Heaton Mersey Bleach Works.
You can see the old effluent point and the weir in the centre of the picture. Above this are the buildings of the new Trading Estate.
The inset picture is a aerial view of the bleach works in 1927.
As most others have said it is your project have fun with it. Sometimes a series of shots tell the story better than an individual shot. I can only think of two times in two years I used multiple images combined, but it was for a reason.
Nothing is cheating... I like explanations on how images were achieved... because I tend to view things on a basis of what needed to be done to get the finished product. Anything goes here, as long as you own the image :)
No problem at all. Like everyone has said...its your project. Its your creativity. If you wanna see an entire theme of collages, in the search box type in:
12-for-12
Then click photos so it brings you to every photo that had that tag.
Its was a great challenge that a large amount of people tried to capture 12 photos on 12/12/12. The creativity and diversity is nothing short of astonishing.
As long as its taken in the same day, than i am all for it. It gives you a more creative option. Also sometimes you take multiple great photos in one day and want to show them all.
Multiple images are many times considered story telling. Many a photo editors have used multiple images to convey a message in print media. Certainly you can do it here - I learned a bit about your cat with the images you posted; cautious yet laid back and aloof.
your project, your rules... so the only person you're cheating is yourself ;p i think collages are great when they tell a story... but i also think there is something to be said on the discipline of choice... but that's still entirely up to you :)
no sweetie, its not cheating, these are "ways" of being creative, feel free to do whatever you want, .... its your project ..... ♥ so have fun and enjoy!

And that is one awesome cat, btw!
Oh, wait, I take that back. This is Thanksgiving.
your project, your way of doing things. Agree with the above, sometimes a series of images help tell a story
I couldn't decide which one to go for this week either. Try to do the project for yourself not for others!
@medusa if you like cat photos, I have some you may enjoy.

As others have said the choice is yours. I am so happy that this is my project and not me playing by someone else's rules. So this is mine from today.
Feeling Blue - my 365
I did a triptych of the same building shot with 35mm film, infrared digital, and regular digital:
