Changing exif data.

February 14th, 2018
My camera has changed the year setting to 2016. Exif data now shows date picture was taken as 2016, and date modified as 2016 also. This means that I cannot load my pictures onto my project.
Does anyone know a good hopefully free exif modification software which I could use to change the year indicator back to 2018.

Are you not able to go into your camera settings to adjust date and time? Often one has to do this when one first purchases a camera... and, in many cases, you still have to go in to adjust time for daylight savings... so I am thinking it should be possible

You can still upload them to your project Tony, just remember to change the date on the upload page. Also in windows you can remove properties and personal information. I don't know of any software that can change these details however.

i believe you can change the exif data in photoshop or maybe lightroom, i did it once two years ago when someone walked me through it but i now forgot the steps. maybe ask someone who is well versed in those two programs. or someone in the know would probably step up once has he/she read this.

also my canon sometimes has a mind of its own and would change the date like it was travelling through time. all i do is change back the date to the present or correct one.

even if your photos are dated 2016, you can still upload them to your albums. if you don't fix the date to the present when you upload, it will be posted to an earlier date but it will be posted.

Google " Free EXIF Editor" and you'll see lots of options. I haven't tried any so I can't vouch. That said, I agree with others, start by checking the date/time in your camera, that should fix things going forward.

The organizer that came with PSE 14 allows you to change the date of the photo.

@korky My camera seems to make up the date and time every time... I just make sure it says the appropriate date when I upload it onto my project. At the moment it thinks it's 2008... I uploaded a shot and couldn't find it...!
If you're not as flippant as me you should be able to reset the date on your camera, it may have reverted to factory settings and your manual (or online guide) may point you in the right direction :)

You can change the date in Windows easily

1. Right click on the photo file. Select Properties at the bottom of the menu that appears, then left click.
2. The Properties menu opens with four headings at the top, namely General/Security/Details/Previous Versions. Select Details.
3. You will see 'Date taken' in the 'Origin' section below. Select this and left click on the date.
4. Change the date to the one you want. Then left click on Apply at the bottom of the window. Your date is now changed.
Voila! as we say here in France.

However, as others have said, it is easier and quicker to Upload your photo to 365Project and then change the date in the Organise part of the dialogue.

I just tested out what Tim said on my folder of today's photos on my laptop.

I selected all the day's photos
Properties (on the top of my screen)
Properties
Details (one of only 2 tabs)
Origin (sub heading)
Date taken - changed the year
It kept all the individual times of each photo!

Good luck

@laroque Well I never Tim, I knew you could delete it but never knew you could change it. Just a left click away! Interesting, thank you for sharing :)

Thanks to everyone for all your replies.I changed the date on the camera without a problem. Then finally realised what the problem was, I was trying to enter two different pictures for the same date. I will apply to join
Idiots R us tomorrow! However, some very interesting replies here.
