Fragile Ego Alert! :)
Just curious if there is a new protocol, besides the number of fav's to get noticed on the TT. Yeah, I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but I was curious why a couple of my photos didn't make the TT - one had 25 fav's this past week, and the other had 30 fav's from the month before. I know there are algorithms involved. But just wondered if it's also about views. Or if the day of the week has changed from when fav's are accounted for (used to be from a Wednesday to Wednesday). You gotta admit, that though there is joy in posting, there's also a little extra joy when something makes the TT every now and then! :)
Hi Kareen, I wouldn't worry about it! It's probably the same kind of choice or algorithm that governs other lists on here. I doubt anyone will ever work it out, it's Ross' project and only he knows. Just remembering what he says on the FAQ's about similar questions re the Popular listing:
"No, it doesn't work the way you think it works - for a good reason, it doesn't matter that you have a bazillion favs and a jizillion followers, just get on with your project and try not to worry about it. Please don't email me about it, I wont tell you, search the discussion boards, there are loads of conspiracy theories about it."
I like it when people enjoy my photos, but at the end of the day they are just that - my photos that I took for the pleasure of it or the memory they evoke. It does feel nice when you see yourself suddenly on some kind of list, but I doubt anyone will ever fathom the whys and wherefores. Just enjoy what you do and be content, I would say. And I really like those two photos you linked to there. Beautiful! They'll be fabulous to look back on over the years.
I think I read one time that the TT is calculated strictly on numbers, not an algorithm like the Popular Page. It could maybe be that your Favs were divided between two weeks. It seems like if it's a slower rise in numbers, it won't have the same result as a meteoric rise in favs. Just my thoughts...I only know enough to be dangerous. I agree with Casablanca...enjoy the ride. My biggest gratitude to 365 is all the times I've been inspired to try something new, learn a new technique, look at things a new way. What a wonderful group.
@featherstone26 Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Sue. Most of the time I'm just happy to post my favorite photos. It's only those rare times when I have a gem or two that gets overlooked for reasons that don't add up, when I get disappointed. I appreciate your encouraging thoughts. :)
@kareenking I agree with the others who have commented. I have had images on TT, sometimes in the top 5 or so, that had high comments and fav numbers and another week, a photo with the same kinds of numbers doesn't even make it (that happened this week, in fact). And sometimes photos have made TT but not appeared on either PP or TP. I have never really figured it out. Of course, I love it when one appears, but have had to remind myself to not pay too close attention to it. Congrats on a good week of photos -- no matter whether they appeared on one of the lists or not!
There is a thread somewhere where Ross explains how it works. I believe the amount if views play apart as well. What I do remember is it runs Wednesday to Wednesday so if you post just before the change over you will lose the favs from that week when it rolls into the next week. When I'm on the PC later I will see if I can find it :)
My understanding, having gone back and forth with Ross in the past, is that photos imported without Exif data (particularly the date taken on the photo) are not considered for TT at all. Furthermore, photos posted a more than a few days after the photo was taken are also not considered. So, for example, all the holiday photos I have taken in April, and now are posting in May, will not be considered for TT regardless of how many fav's they get.
@888rachel that's interesting Rachel - I haven't come across that information before - most of my photos would be out of contention in that case because I faff around a lot and that often gets rid of the exif - personally I don't care but it sucks in terms of TT - but then I think the TT is not a true representation of the best photos on 365 anyway - or what most 365ers think are the best photos either
@annied@rjb71@888rachel@taffy@Weezilou Thanks for your responses. I guess it remains a mystery when all is said and done. Nice to know that others have experienced similar things. I appreciate all your input. :)
@kareenking I think in rational terms, there is no rhyme or reason to the PP of the TT. Although I am always very impressed with the TT, I don't always agree with the PP. I once had a photo on the PP that had only 3 views at the time. I have never had a photo on the TT, but had one of two that I thought might have a chance over the past 6 years. I have learned not to worry about it and just enjoy 365 and the friends I have made.
@henrir I agree with you - not much rhyme or reason. And yes, I’ll just lower my expectations as I continue to post. If nothing else, 365 allows the good practice for me to distinguish my best work.
