Hi all PS users, as I am only into my second month now, there is still so much to learn. Can anyone let me know which is a good tutorial for SC? I watched a few but did not like them as they seemed too complicated. I also would appreciate recommendations for other manipulative tutorials. Many thanks.
Here are just two different methods I have used Diana, one method for revealing a single colour and one method using layer mask to reveal the colour or colours say a bunch of flowers through the mask, both are quite straight forward best of luck just give them a try I look forward to see the results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRN2AX0UNcg also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EChVFe17kK8
The way I do selective colour is to use layers, but I do it in GIMP, so although the method is the same, the exact ways you do some of this will vary.
1. Duplicate the layer of the chosen picture - once assuming one section of colour
2. convert the bottom layer to grayscale, however you want to (I tend to make top layer invisible while I'm doing this)
3. make the top layer visible and add an alpha layer to the top layer
4. select the area you want to remain in colour - Ctrl I to invert the selection, delete - that should leave you with an area of colour
5. Ctrl A to select all
6, still working on the top layer use the eraser tool to tidy up the shape you've chosen
7. Merge the layers.
@pcoulson Perter, you are a star! Thanks ever so much for the YouTube links. I tried them both and must say that the Gavin Hoey one is fantastic! It took me quite a while to figure out how to open in camera raw (I don't shoot in raw) I fiddled around quite a bit and will post a result tomorrow. Maybe not perfect, but a start ;-)
What a good question you asked...I'm looking for the same! @pcoulson and I add my thanks as well...these are on my schedule for tonight! @shannejw I'm adding my thanks, too...
You don't need to use layers... if the tone cannot be changed in selective colour make it grey then go to colour balance and alter the colour there. Very simple.
