I know many of you out there must know someone that is in this situation. This is a very good friend of mine. Vinnie. I just found out a couple weeks ago that he has stage two bone marrow cancer. The doc gave him around six months to live.
That is unless the meds, chemo, and possibility of stemcell replacement work and give him a second chance. The big reason I am posting this is to ask those of you that see this believe in pray, please pray for him, his wife, and twin 16 year old sons. I want to thank all of you in advance. I took this pic on a fishing trip several years ago. He was so (proud) of this catch :)
Ah Richard. Good vibes going to Vinnie, his family and his friends...
Hope that his fight is not too painful, and what ever the resul,t it is peaceful and full of good times and wonderful memories...
my dad is going through radiology and chemo right now. I have heard the key is for everyone around him to make a decision that he will survive and get him to believe he will survive. They say positivity really does play a huge role for the patient. Also it helps to remove the negative people for the time being because it is wasted energy.
@brumbe my dad got 4 years after a diagnosis of Brain Tumors and Lung cancer, with meds, operations and sheer stubbornness,, he had things to do and people to see, and once he had done those things he let go and said see ya soon..
@nikkers my dad has throat cancer (never smoked, is not of Asian descent and was almost a non-drinker) and has been given an almost 100% recovery rate, unfortunately, the chemo and a procedure stressed his heart out and he just got a stent put in at Hopkins. We walk around here thinking that this is just a six week inconvenience where he is going to feel like crap, but after that he will be just fine. Thanks for your thoughts
I'm an aethiest so I wont be praying, but I will be thinking of your friend. A very good friend of mine has pretty much cancer everywhere....and she's currently on her 3rd lot of chemo, having had radio in between. She's a fighter, and the livliest, most outgoing person I know. I dont think she has long TBH...but she's making the most of whats left. I hope your friend is a fighter too. *hugs*
Including your friend in my prayers. So sorry to hear this. The dreaded "C" word...I just wish they'd find a cure for all of it already. Thinking of you as it's easy to see he means a lot to you. I would be devastated if my best friend heard this kind of news.
Wow. Hard one to swallow, Richard. I had a dear friend go through this 20 years ago with Leukemia. Her faith and positive attitude make her a survivor. I tested for a match but could not help her in that respect. She was close to having amputations done by then.
However, please note:
They found a match. Had a transplant in a Hospital in St Louis, and is alive and well today. They didn't give her 6 months then...20 years ago.
I will only pray that this happens with your friend, or anyone for that matter.
Sending prayers and positive thoughts to you and your friend and all that surround him. And can I just add that from the beginning of my time here on 365 nearly 2 years ago I have found this place to be so much more than a photography site.....so much love and support in the good times and bad that we all share. Thank you to everyone. :-)
My prayers are with your friend and his family. Please keep us posted so we can continue to pray during his different treatments. There is not one life that hasn't been touched by cancer in some way shape and form- it's everyone's battle.
@olivetreeann Your note got to me after I posted the reply to many, thank you as well, I will try and keep an update when possible. look back at my last post it has a reply from his wife
in my thoughts and prayers, as are you. so sorry to read this. never ever doubt the power of prayer and postive thinking and what people can do together. God bless.
My husband died of multiple myleoma, which is a type of blood and bone marrow cancer. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your friend, and his family. May they find strength in the prayers of so many.
Your friend, Vinnie will be in my prayers . . he is blessed with a wonderful family and you as a friend. May God be with all of you during this battle.
@mastermek apparently you don't know my Lord the way I do, and that is sad as well. But that is your choice and yours alone. Thank you for the well wishes though.
Update on Vinnie long overdue. Today, after very much chemo and other stuff, he had the surgery that puts a tube from the neck down very close to his heart if not into it. The tube sticks out of his neck. In a week the good stem cells will be harvested. Then he will have chemo to the point of edge of death to hopefully kill off the rest of the cancer cells. Then the cells that were harvested will be put back into his body, then wait. I know many of you have prayed for him and I/we thank you. God does do mircles, and He also is the one that give the doctors the wisdom to do what they do. Please keep on praying. Thank you. I hope I got in all who replied, if not, I am sorry
@rrt I was just wondering about Vinnie last night as i was praying for him. Thanks you for the update and know that he is still in my prayers as are you for being such a good friend to him!
I have been wondering how your friend has been doing everytime I go to you pictures...been praying for him all the time and I know God does do miracles...Thanks for the update.
@rrt Richard, thank you for including me in on this. This is tough. But, a dear friend of mine went through something similar a number of years ago. It was her faith, patience, absolution, acceptance, and to me most importantly in her case..., positive attitude that made her a successful (still) survivor.
The way my Mother brought me up, if you accept, I will say a Novena the next nine days for Vinnie. God Bless.
I pray that his family has continued faith and strength for him in seeing this process through. I am sure they are so worried and chemo can be such a nasty process when they are not wanting to push you to the brink.
@rrt Thank you so much for the update Richard. I will continue to pray for Vinnie knowing that the advances in science can be an amazing tool in God's hands!
Update on Vinnie. Vinnie is starting the last part of the stemcell replacement process. Yesterday he had the extensive chemo treatment that is suposed to kill off the rest of the cancer cells. This process pretty much kills his imune system as well. Then today or tomorrow they will start replacing the harvested stem cells. He will be in very poor condition for about 30 days, then veru slow recovery after that.
If at all possible this is what I ask each one of you to do, maybe you will or won't, it is up to you. Please send him a card of encourgement. I have copied your replies from the past and given them to him and it was a great thing for him.
So please do this if you can,
the address is STRONG MEMORIAL, 601 ELMWOOD,AVE
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, USA 14642 then put his name Vinnie/Jim Lockett Patient
Please just words of encouragement, you can let him know you are the people from the 365 group. I am going to thank you in advance for what I hope some, if not all of you will do.
and may God bless each and every one

Thanks for the update, Richard. My former principal went through this procedure, and, while it was grueling, he's completely cured now. He said he's never felt better in his life, and now volunteers at Dana Farber in Boston to help the new patients who are undergoing this treatment. I'll get a card off to him tomorrow! I wish they had this treatment when my husband was diagnosed.
@rrt Thanks for the update Richard. I have been praying and will keep praying. I will also send a card out on Monday when I'm in town. I'm glad to be a little part of his road to recovery. It will be awesome to see how God works through all of this!
Thanks to all who want to and are able to send a card to Vinnie. I know each one will be an encouragement to him.
He will really be surprised to get some from the UK.
what a wonderful friend you are. i can not WAIT to send him a card from Vermont. strong believer in the power of prayer, positive thinking and what strong hearts can do with one purpose in mind. have a friend who has undergone many treatments, experiemental ones, and is now being studied for her sprituality as that is the only reason they can figure she is still alive as everyone else in all those other 'studies' is long gone. she does not have one true faith except life, love, people - does not attend church but does believe. funny how that works.
Hope that his fight is not too painful, and what ever the resul,t it is peaceful and full of good times and wonderful memories...
Will keep your friend and his family in my prayers.
I want to thank all each of you for your kind thoughts and prayers. In a couple of days I intend to send this posting to Vinnie. I know it will be VERY uplifting for him. Thanks again

Again, I want to thank all. I already sent the site to vinnie, here is what his wife sent back to me====This brought tears to my eyes…thank you.
Is there a way to let these folks know that we appreciated their thoughts + prayers and we thank each of every one of them…
Can you post that we send our deepest gratitude and wish all a healthy and happy 2012….
@Cherrill I agree as well that this site can be and is more than a photo site, thank you
He is a very lucky man to have a great friend such as yourself.
I thank each one of you
