I counted up the votes, and my image "Love Letters" had the most votes.
( PLEASE count them to be sure)
It seems like it is too late to run an Abstract Door Handle challenge,So I propose to wait until the winner of the Mundane Door Handles challenge selects the next object and host that abstract challenge.
PLEASE let me know your thoughts on this.I am a huge fan of the mundane challenges and do not want the Abstract Mundane Challenge to fade away!
@amandal thanks Amanda!I really do not want to over-step,but I hate to see any of these challenges fade away,They are fun, inspiring and a great way to learn and grow.
I'm always in favour of a solutions-driven attitude... I'd say go for it!
The only thing I kind of want to mention is that the lines between mundane and abstract blur pretty quickly... But as long as everyone's having fun I think it's all good :)
@mzzhope well congratulations!! A well deserved win. I remember thinking when the new mundane challenge was announced that it would be a day or so and the abstract winner would be announced. Maybe we should try get them back on the same days? Or was the day changes made on purpose/for a reason?
I also agree with @northy about the blurred lines between the 2 challenges and it should somehow be stressed about the differences between the 2 and that if you follow the challenge outlines you wouldn't use tags for both mundane and abstract mundane - I don't know if I'm making myself clear?
I think it's fine for you to step in and re-introduce the challenge. As Northy stated the lines blur rather quickly and on a personal note, I don't like it when the same shot makes both vote offs. So if you do give it a jump start, I'd suggest choosing a different subject for the abstract version rather than using the same one. Just my 2 cents worth! Congratulations!
First! Congrats to you Hope--it was a great shot and you deserve props!!!I will put in my two cents here, though. I don't think this challenge needs two categories as the entries get put in both often and the finalists show up in both with the same photo. Abstract is such a hard term to work with in photography. I remember when the new "abstract" challenge came about and it was because a really creative entry (which was also a finalist) used the object but in a very clever way--there seemed to be discussion about whether the object was the star of the show or not. I think the mundane challenge allows for abstract presentation without the need for it's own separate category. Like I said, just my two cents. And it ain't worth much. ;)
@darylo@olivetreeann I hear you ladies! But since this challenge was already in existence When I got here,I really don't feel like it is my place to change it .I just did not want anyone to think I was jumping in without actually winning the previous one. Maybe the next person that wins will feel more comfortable changing it and or killing it off.I just don't feel like I have been here long enough to do that.:)
That said,I will do my best to stay true to the original intent of the challenge when selecting finalists.Because I do understand and agree with what you are saying.
@mzzhope Please, I apologize if I'm in the wrong here, but I see you won the non-abstract category as I see you are running the vote for the mundane challenge. Some photos in the finals you chose are clearly also abstract shots, which goes to (I think) what others and myself have been pointing out. Why the separate abstract distinction for the challenge? Honestly, I understand your hesitancy to end something you know existed when you got here, but from the moment I saw this "separate" category as a result of a couple of comments in voting of the mundane challenge for one vote, I realized this was not the challenge for me as I could not understand why "abstract" could not be part of the challenge (especially if the object in question is announced anyway). NOT trying to stir the pot (seriously, because I'm not a pot stirrer here), but I'm wondering if we can put to rest the confusion between the two as they are not defined well, to be honest. It would be nice to just have a mundane challenge (and the photographer can ETSOOI, Abstract it, realistic it, sci-fi it....you get my drift). :)
@darylo I really DO see what you are saying, but I am no precedent setter. Many people have participated in the challenge and seem to enjoy it.I know that lines can blur between abstract and mundane. We could probably all have a weeks long debate over what truly constitutes "abstract". ( because I don't think any of the ones I chose were abstract...I clearly knew by looking at them, that they are door handles..But I sure as heck am no abstract expert.not by a lonnnng shot lol.)I just wanted to be open about the fact that I counted the votes and found that it would be my turn to host. But I will request that, due to concerns ,folks not double tag their entries. That doesn't seem TOO rebellious.:) Perhaps someone who dislikes the abstract mundane challenge can join, win and squash it.:) I personally would like to see more challenges! It helps motivate me ,inspire me ,gives me something new to try and most importantly they are just a real good time!
@darylo Also,I am well aware that my "abstract" image for the envelope challenge should not have won.I do know that. To me something abstract gives a hint of what it may be.But I really gave it my best shot.My mundane envelope shot wasn't tagged for abstract because that one clearly wasn't .It was interesting to try to photograph the same subject multiple ways.
@mzzhope The issue, if I may be candid, is that the subject is the mundane object its self. How the photographer wants to make it the star is his/her choice--abstract, realistic, surrealistic, etsooi, macro, etc. The abstract category does not seem like a viable option, especially if some admittedly do not know what abstract means (myself included--see my many discussions on the topic in my own photos--it's a struggle). Why would one not want to put in an abstract photo in both? And if they can, then why is an abstract challenge necessary? They can coexist. And it would really help in the end because your own predicament was with someone announcing your win when you were running the mundane challenge at the same time! I hate public displays of conversations. This is when I wish there was an inbox on this site. I may sound like some cad who is insistent that the mundane challenge return to its roots. I love challenges--they are my lifeblood! I vote for a mundane challenge with options for any interpretation as along as the object is the star (abstract or no). :)
@darylo I do understand what you are saying. But I did not invent the challenge,I just had the misfortune to have someone go MIA on my win.You are no cad!!'I get what you are saying. Why don't you start a separate thread and get a consensus.Like a challenge vote.If everyone votes to kill the abstract then I will happily be the last.:)
@mzzhope I will think on it on vacation and will propose it when I get back! I do think that the mundane challenge can handle it all--I understand your hesitancy and really want you to understand I celebrate your win!!!! You're awesome!
I'm honestly and fully sorry for the situation. I was keeping track of the competition to some stage but I was travelling and from day to day I've lost internet access for few days and really couldn't do anything about it.
I take that on me.
I'm really really sorry. I'm also very thankful that you took care of it.

I will proceed to tag for mundane. thanks for the heads up HOpe
