thank you so much to sarah @sarahlth for setting up this abstract challenge. i'm honoured as the last winner to take it on to abstract 2, and very grateful to everyone who voted for my staircase. i love abstract images but feel i have a lot to learn. this is an ideal challenge for anyone who'd like to have a go at abstract shots - browse through the images via the tag, and you'll get a sense of the variety and scope of abstract photography
here's sarah's original description of the challenge:
'On this site we have lots of great abstract images. We have the mundane abstract challenge, but this ties the shots to a certain subject. I thought it might be fun to start a pure abstract challenge, with no limit to the subject.
In terms of rules I would suggest that
1. As far as possible the actual object is not immediately recognisable
2. The shot is taken within the time frame of the challenge
3. You can enter as many images as you like
4. As with other challenges the person who wins has the honour of hosting the next one.'
i would like to add what @annied thinks about when she's shooting abstract (hope that's okay annie!):
'Abstract photography is based on the photographers eye. We're looking to capture something in a way that it would not usually be seen. Looking for the details, the patterns, the lines, the form, shape and colors that complete a subject and utilizing those key features to make an engaging image.'
for this first challenge the shots must be taken between
31 october and midnight gmt on 15 november
after that i'll select a shortlist and everyone will get to vote on the finalists
please tag your shots: Abstract-2
good luck and enjoy, and do please post your shots in this thread to inspire others ...

As defining abstract can be difficult I have added this link to introduce and develop your idea of what abstract photography is. https://petapixel.com/2017/03/20/introduction-abstract-photography/
