....these were in use? I do. For anyone not familiar with them, this is a steam roller. When I was a little girl in the 1950s I used to see them flattening and compacting newly laid tarmac. This one - Victoria - was built by Aveling and Porter in Strood, just across the river from my home town (Chatham) in Kent.

Don't they still use them? I hadn't noticed their demise! We had a huge steam rally here a couple of weeks ago. Very crowded, must be a lot of people interested in them. Nice pic.
