Mystery

These flowers are growing on a large shrub? small tree? in the grounds of West Wycombe Park. I looked them up in my RHS encyclopedia but couldn't see them. Does anyone know what they are?
The focus in this shot didn't go where I meant it to but I rather liked the effect anyway.
Catalpa bignonoides, or Indian bean tree. The seed pods are bean shaped, but I don't think it is edible. It can grow to be a very large tree, but can be pruned hard and regularly to keep it smaller and encourage it to develop bigger leaves. They can grow to a foot across sometimes. The flowers are beautifully scented, particularly in the evening.

Sorry, just looked it up to confirm and I have misspelt it - C bignonioides
