We spent the night in Aliwal North, and drove the Maloti Route along the western boarder of Lesotho up to Phuthaditjhaba. This trip has the Drakensberg Mountains on your right, and the farm-lands of the eastern Free State on your left. Just past Clarens we drove through the Golden Gate National Park, famous for it's massive sandstone cliffs. It was a bitterly cold day, but no snow visiable in the area we drove through. Just beyond the park we turned up the R57 to Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge.
