Sources of protein
The Zimbabwean traders at the station do a roaring trade in dried Madora and Matembe.
Madora is the dried catepillar (known to South Africans as Mopane Worms). It's usually cooked in a chilli-tomato sauce and served with maize meal.
Matemba is tiny salted and dried fish. To serve they are re-hydrated, and fried in oil till crisp. They are then tossed into a bowl of soup.
