This is the empty egg case of a little shark, the lesser spotted dogfish, that was washed on the beach. I thought this one had a nice yellow colour and transparency, so I brought it back home to try a photo with artificial light.
The now empty egg case has previously contained a fertilized shark embryo, and was initially attached to seaweeds through the curly tendrils at the ends. See this link for example if you want to find more : http://staffweb.itsligo.ie/staff/dcotton/Mermaids_purses.html
