Two of my passions are art of the American West and photography. The Stark Museum and several others currently have a National Geographic exhibit, "Greatest Photographs of the American West:" http://www.photographsofthewest.org/. It is spectacular!
Great shot- do you know who the sculptor was? It reminds me of work of the artist we saw in Boston this summer- Cyrus Dallin. He did many sculptures of Native Americans. You may also want to go into the archives of Discussions because the other day someone posted a link to a photographer ?? O'Sullivan who photographed the West in the late 1800's as part of a land survey for the US Army- awesome pictures! You'd love them if you love the West.
@olivetreeann Thanks for your comments! I was annoyed at myself for not writing down the name of the statue and the sculptor. I looked online but couldn't find it. I'm going to call the museum tomorrow (I'm a little obsessive about things like that--I used to work in a library.) I saw that link--weren't those photos amazing?
@eudora They were amazing- and even more amazing was the dark room he carried around with him on a covered wagon! I wouldn't be surprised if this sculpture was done by Dallin- it's very much like his style. I wanted to be a librarian at one point- I've worked in them and almost made it to library school- but son #2 came on to the scene and life took me on another detour!
