Betsy and her daughter Mishka are feral cats living in the Botanic Garden. Their caregiver has consulted a vet about Betsy's rash, which you can see on her face. He slips prednisone into her food, then watches to make sure the right cat gets the meds. He's been caring for them for 5 years.
It's good to see people caring for animals. Our shelter is overflowing right now. They took in 100 dogs last WEEK and are asking for volunteers to foster dogs. Unfortunately, we don't feel we can care for a dog right now.
@joysabin I agree. It broke my heart today when I got the email from the shelter asking for volunteers to foster dogs. Within an hour of that email, there was a post on Nextdoor about a man who had dumped a mother dog and 2 puppies at a church only a few miles from the shelter. I know you transport dogs, so you probably know that Louisiana is one of those states where organizations rescue dogs to transport to other states.
It's too bad they can't hook up some of those homeless/home needing animals with nursing homes and other care sites that use therapy animals- what a match that would be! This seems like a good paring too and obviously both Betsy and the Caregiver are benefiting from it. Good shot.
So sad. Earlier in the pandemic the word was people were seeking dogs from rescue groups to entertain them. Now I guess they have outlived their usefulness.
