Train cars, trucks, farm equipment and even a boat.
I thought of my mother (yes, my mother!) who was rather proper but who loved a bargain, so was not above picking through things at the town garbage dump. To be fair, people would leave decent things off to the side, like we now leave them by the road, in case someone could use them. She once found an antique piano stool, brought it home and refinished it. I still have it. I'll have to photograph it....
Sounds like a fun place to look around. My DIL has a thing for old chairs. I took her to grab a chair off the side of a busy highway last year. I was glad we lived to tell about it. She put it on her front porch and set a pot of geraniums on it. It looked kind of beat up but was perfect to hold the plant.
@louannwarren I have a friend like that! We were driving one day and she saw an old wooden window on someone's trash. She asked if I would be embarrassed if she stopped to pick it up. I wasn't, she did and she repurposed it as a picture frame.
There was a wonderful children's book I used to read at Story Hour when I worked at a public library called, "Hey Mr. Garbage Man" and it was about a fellow who found homes for all the "good stuff" that people were throwing away. Maybe it was inspired by your mom! Love this rusty old boat!
