I posted a picture of this church five years ago when it was open to the public for the annual Audubon Pilgrimage. No longer an active church, it is maintained by the Episcopal church in nearby St. Francisville. I'm fascinated by these small rural houses of worship that were so important once but have fallen into disuse. This one is lucky, as it is maintained and apparently still used for special events like weddings.
A note about the Audubon Pilgrimage: It was a very Southern event, held in the town of St. Francisville each spring when the azaleas were blooming. Historic homes and churches were open, hosted by women dressed in antebellum gowns. I often attended. The architecture was fascinating but the history presented was romanticized. Kudos to the historical society for canceling the tour until they can decide how to present plantation history more accurately.
