Gemain Bergeron house ca 1805

LSU Rural Life Museum

This old house is special. It's a rare surviving example of the houses built by early immigrants to Louisiana from Nova Scotia, people like those in the Longfellow poem "Evangeline." The timbers are hand-hewn cypress and the walls are bousillage, mud mixed with Spanish moss. A Cajun original!

Nifty Fifty SOOC challenge, shot using the toy camera picture effect
FAV for its historical value. It’s really a neat looking house and so interesting to hear the details Diane.

Wow- ingenious construction! I'm curious what made them go from Nova Scotia all the way to Louisiana. Must be quite the story.
