The fennel was covered with these wasps this morning. There weren't many bees. I don't know if it was a territory thing, or if bees don't like fennel.
Getting the image was a bit tricky because this fennel plant arches about 2.5m above the pathway from a side bed. I was trying to lean over close enough to reach the flowers and wasps without falling and also trying to stay still. I am sure the tourists who passed by thought I was a lunatic. :) That's okay; if I gave someone something interesting to talk about for an hour or so, why not? :)
