This bright yellow structure which has suddenly appeared on the cliffs above The Warren at Folkestone is one of five model holiday homes placed in random spots across the town as part of the Triennial Arts Celebration, a six week festival starting in September. The artist is Richard Wood.
The work makes a connection between the so-called ‘housing crisis’ in the South East of England, and the boom in second homes. The replicas are approximately one third the size of an actual home.
I did visit the bright pink floating holiday home in the middle of Folkestone Harbour which makes quite a quirky statement, but was unable to find anywhere to park so will have to leave a picture of that one to another day.
@redandwhite@randystreat@golftragic@peadar@brennieb@gijsje@robinm@hermann@suzanne234 Thanks very much for your comments, the art is above my head and I don't understand it but it was a good photo opportunity and I have so often been stuck for something different/unusual. This seemed to fit the bill! And yes Peter, it's supported by the Arts Council! Apparently "it's the flagship project of the Creative Foundation, an independent visionary arts charity dedicated to Folkestone's regeneration through creative activity"
It looks lost and out of place. Makes me think of a child's home mede wendy house using cardboard boxes. I guess though that despite the 'art' being lost to most folk it is a cool conversation piece!
@jclaireyp@merrelyn@johnsutton@salza Thanks very much for taking the time to comment - it's so good to get the reaction of others to subjects like this. Some love it, some don't. I will definitely try to get a shot of the bright pink floating 'home' in the harbour, it is so different shall we say! Even more so when a few weeks ago it broke free from its moorings and started to drift out to sea ...
