Balancing Act by fbailey

Balancing Act

My get pushed partner this week, Vera, challenged me to take a picture in the midday sun, something I have not tried before on this site. So here is my best effort taken yesterday - not brilliant by any means, but at least it was taken at the right time of day with a short window of bright sunshine. I was hoping to better it today but the weather had other ideas!

I took this standing on the public footpath to the fields outside the garden. I had to stand in partial shade and used a polarizing filter, probably too enthusiastically.

I picked this one because of the angle of the butterfly's wings. I usually shoot them sideways on or looking down at them so this was slightly different for me at any rate. The poor little creature was struggling to keep its footing in the breeze which was quite strong, so that may have caused the downward tilt of the wings.
@vera365 Hi Vera, I hope this is acceptable to you, much harder than I thought it was going to be! The weather is meant to be rainy tomorrow so if you wanted me to try the colour Red, I bought a pomegranate and some strawberries today just in case!!

Sorry it was hard, but glad it was challenging living up to the challenge's name! I like the unexpected orange-purple color combination. With the black it creates a high contrast scene that works well in a harsh light!

I think you did well. The colors are not washed out like mine often are.

The angle you chose adds interest - took a few moments to recognize what sort of beast it was. Great colours on his wings.

Wonderful PoV. I like the different angle. Shows the sensory hairs on the thorax.
