I met this lovely chap on Deal seafront yesterday. He happily agreed to have his picture taken but when I told him my name and asked him for his name, he said he just wanted to be known as No14, as in The Prisoner (a cult series some years ago in the UK).
Such a nice chap, my confidence in asking strangers for a picture is slowly growing:)
you are braver than me... I struggle to ask family if i can take their picture!! He looks so much like a friend of ours (who recently passed away...) uncanny really. I am sure he is a lovely person he has a kind face
@byrdlip I am always so grateful that people grant me a picture and don't think I'm making a pass at them, for me that is intrusion enough. I just have to respect their wishes to remain anonymous:)
@helenhall With Chris, the chap who works on the pier (No.13), my only intention was to find out when the pier was reopening. I then went on to elaborate that I was looking for a vantage point for a panorama. And btw had he ever heard of the 100 Strangers project. I also added (perfectly truthfully) that every time I approach someone for a shot, my stomach ties up in knots. So he made it easier for me by asking if I wanted his picture. I was over the moon:) That made it so much easier to ask No.14 who was nearby, and he was fine with it too but didn't want to give his name, which was perfectly understandable as I'd explained I wanted to add the picture to the internet. I was very lucky with No.15 (to be added tomorrow) as I was sitting on the beach taking shots of the sea and he walked by and asked if I'd taken any good ones. I chatted about the pier closure and the panorama challenge and then broached the subject of the 100 Strangers - he was very happy to help. Apart from his name and being very grateful he could help me, I have no further information on him and I think my bravery has reached its limits here:) Hope this helps!
@fbailey Okay, I think I didn't get the reference correct : "he just wanted to be known as No14, as in The Prisoner " so I send the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE-EMinj69o and ask you fast forward to the 2:02 mark.
You are taking such thoughtful portraits of these people - those who want to have them sent to them must be very pleased with the final result. I love the way the people you have approached have been so co-operative. Most aussies will chat to anybody, anywhere, but I must admit that it is a little different to actually ask them if you can take their photo. You must be enjoying this - meeting so many people. :)
@robz I have been very lucky with my strangers so far, hoping I get to the 100 mark without someone being unkind to me! I don't enjoy the asking for a picture bit, that does unnerve me a lot, but once they say yes, my confidence goes up a notch:)
