I am the veins in the spindly leaves
which cling to the barest bones of trees
whose arms reach out and claw at the sky
as myriad birds float silently by;
I am the grass upon soft lazy hills
which roll 'cross the landscape and down to the frill
of the deep blue ocean, whose petulant swells
mold the earth's edges as they crash and rebel;
I am the flowers taking root deep beneath
the soles of the child's little bare feet
as he races through the garden to find
the tiny toy shovel he had left behind;
And I am the spectrum which pigments the sight
from the warm canvas of day to the dark shades of night;
I am red and violet and every color in between,
but if I could pick just ONE -
I would be green
