In Transylvania, this is the customary informal salutation, usually translated by Hello! or Bye! It is not used throughout all Romania. The same salutation is also used in Hungarian (with specific form for greeting one or more persons) and Austrian German. The origin of the word lies in Latin, meaning 'i am your slave' or 'at your service'.
