This is the view from our back garden this morning, which left me in no doubt as to why I had suddenly become very aware of the exact location of my nipples.
This is Mount Egmont/Mount Taranaki and it would appear that winter may be on it's way. I for one will be breaking out the merino underwear in the very near future.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
Breathtaking! We just got through our winter. We broke the 100 year snowfall record! It was misery and I hope the Southern Hemisphere doesn't have to endure the same. Stay warm!
@wearing0 thank you very much @dh we're pretty lucky with that - we can be on the mountain in about 20 minutes or choose from 5 beaches within 5 -15 minute drive... @spanner thanks - I felt like I was smuggling tic tacs! @ceilidh thank you, we're very mucky with that view @neakwagener aaa huh the winterless North ;) @shezza as a precaution I'll be wrapping myself in wool from head to toe @je77rey thank you very much @denisefuller thanks, a bit of guess work in the morning as I'd only just woken! @jan20 thank you :) @andrewkru thanks, it is a stunner...unless it's covered in cloud and then we know it's raining. If it's not covered in cloud, we know it's about to rain! @vignouse To be honest, they were of a comparable size! @cdh365 thanks very much, appreciated
@graemestevens Great shot, and what a fantastic view from your place! But just looking at that photo makes me feel cold. It gets pretty chilly here, but rarely get a frost where we live - too close to the sea I think.
@graemestevens I must have a look at my map of NZ and see exactly where New Plymouth is. We've been to NZ several times (and will go again) and love both islands. Both have great golf courses, but on balance, we prefer the South Island for scenery and friendly people.
@golftragic We're halfway up the north Island on the west coast, sticky out bit called Taranaki. The South Island has astounding scenery but is full of inbred rednecks really, but next time you're over bring those clubs!
@jess1204 thanks so much, we're very lucky to have it "just out the back" @yaorenliu we are indeed @dibzgreasley it was very cold this morning - winter is nearly here @oxley63 thank you...I'm nice and toasty now :)
I was in NP for a few days in Feb and only saw the mountain for a short time on one day. When it does show itself, it is rather spectacular. Looks like there has been a reasonable dump of snow. Brrrrrrrr.......
@deliad very "cool" this morning - if you can see the mountain it's going to rain, if you can't see it, it is raining. We missed it when we lived in the UK and now we hardly get to see it anyway!
@gigiflower I've been to the top once, many years ago. It's a relatively easy climb in places. There also, to the North of the mountain the Pouaki Ranges, all forming the National Park with walking/hiking tracks of varying degrees and huts, and there is a small ski field on the eastern slopes
@bellshanghai2014 thanks very much @lynnilou thank you again! @semjaja Thanks very much - clear skies this morning which somehow makes it's worse, so for now my nipples will remain a closely guarded secret!
@graemestevens Thanks for the geography lesson Graeme. In the interest of inter-island peace I shall refrain from further potentially inflammatory comment - or should that now be 'flammatory'? We will certainly be back, and will certainly bring the clubs. Are you a fellow golf tragic??
@golftragic You're welcome. I play the odd game of golf, and by odd I mean peculiar. To be honest I'm a very religious golfer - across here, across there, across the other way...but if nothing else I get a good walk!!!
@graemestevens Either religious (lots of crossing) or military (left, right, left, right …). That's golf, just when you think you're getting somewhere with it, golf comes up and bites one in the posterior! Great puncturer of egos!
@golftragic that it is - I think it was Mark Twain that said golf spoils a good walk (don't quote me on that!) but either way I occasionally enjoy sending that little white pill away from me at great speed. Or burying it in the ground a few feet from the tee...
@graemestevens None too sure who said that, but I think you're on the money with MT. Nothing more satisfying than whacking a good drive - or more frustrating than mucking it up - in any of countless perms and coms.
