The Bitter Taste of Failure by graemestevens

The Bitter Taste of Failure

My inspiration for today's shot failed miserably. Everything was set up and ready to go and I pushed the button with "take photo" written on it. By the time the 10 second timer that I'd left on last night had finished it's countdown the world had moved on, as had my shot, so you're stuck with this.
Just move along, I won't be offended in the least.
Kim
love your select colour although my garden is suddenly looking naked

Sam
I'm confused. Which is quite normal for me. Apart from your selective colour, what went wrong?
June 4th, 2014
@kimkyra Thank you - if it's any comfort to you, your garden may be naked but I'm still fully clothed.

Smoke instead if fire!? I dunno..I think this is a happy accident because I love the smoke!
June 4th, 2014
@gigiflower Are you saying my selective colour is wrong? ;) My first shot went wrong, which was a much braver, bolder fire than this but there was only ever going to be one chance to catch it, so I took this instead.
June 4th, 2014
@mzzhope Thanks very much, it is actually fire, but I've just made it B&W

Sam
@graemestevens LOL stop being so competitive ;) Is it wrong because the flowers aren't on FIRE? I'm obviously now stupid AND confused!
June 4th, 2014
@gigiflower This isn't at all the shot I had intended to take - the shot I had intended to take certainly had no flowers involved.
June 4th, 2014
For myself, it's a very beautifull shot! Maybe it's not what you have in mind but I dont care. I love this one not the otherone I couldn't see! FAV
June 4th, 2014
@daneau Thanks very much - the other one would have been AWESOME! Oh well, some other time...
June 4th, 2014
So intriguing -- Not knowing it wasn't what you had in mind, I thought it was a very clever sc image and wondered what the smoke was about.
June 4th, 2014
@taffy Thanks...and I'll never tell ;)
June 4th, 2014
This is lovely. Not quite sure what you were orignally wanting to achieve, but this is just as nice, I'm sure. Love the colour selection with the black and white.
June 4th, 2014
@jules13 Thanks very much, not even close to what I was aiming for, but I'm all out of matches :(
June 4th, 2014
I think this is fantastic! Sorry to hear this shot did not work out as you would have liked. I love the selective colouring and the composition is divine. Great sense of movement as well.
June 4th, 2014
COOL AGAIN!!! :) Fav!!! :)
June 4th, 2014
@rachelm Thanks very much - appreciate your comments and the fav
@cindyloo Thanks again :)
June 4th, 2014
I can understand disappointment based on what you thought in your mind would happen, but this is a really cool shot! Love the selective color! Happy accident I say.
June 4th, 2014
@jess1204 Thanks very much indeed
June 4th, 2014
I feel dizzy reading the thread. Love the smoke. Love the image too even if you wish it were different! Fav
June 4th, 2014
Smoking ruins? But out of failure comes victory, it's a great shot anyway.
June 4th, 2014
@ceilidh thanks very much as always, much appreciated
@golftragic thanks - the more I look at it the more bearable it becomes!
June 4th, 2014
@graemestevens Chin up, old boy. A double single-malt works like a charm.
June 4th, 2014
Love the ethereal feel to it - brilliant shot!
June 4th, 2014
yes! a fire shot! i have missed these! very cool and creative!
June 4th, 2014
@golftragic don't I know it!
@creativefool thanks very much, always appreciated
June 4th, 2014
@andrewkru thanks very much - not my best work but it'll do!
June 4th, 2014
Well, this is a cool shot, even if it pales in comparison to what you had planned for today's shot. If it is any consolation at all ( in the misery loves company vein) I have often been bitten in the butt by left behind camera settings, which destroy what would have been a great shot. Sometimes a delayed shutter timer and sometimes an exposure compensation. Always so very frustrating.
June 4th, 2014
Great shot!
June 4th, 2014
Turned out really cool looking, the sc is awesome in this :)
June 4th, 2014
Great shot
June 4th, 2014
I think you're just teasing us - wondering what we have missed.
June 4th, 2014
@gardencat thanks very much - it's frustrating alright, but these things happen I guess!
@georgiat thanks very much
@shawnasays thank you, appreciated
@denisefuller thanks very much :)
@dh what you missed = man on fire. But thus shot has grown on me!
June 4th, 2014
I like your failure...and don't be so hard on yourself you have one hand burned keke
Sweet selective coloring and very creative
June 4th, 2014
Well the proverbial THEY say that where there is smoke there IS fire....so!!! I love this image, well done. Hope you hand has recovered!
June 4th, 2014
@livvy @lynnilou thank you both very much, the hand is just fine!
June 4th, 2014
The one that got away...!
June 4th, 2014
I really like this, creative, Id love to see the results if you ever have another go....but dont set yourself on fire!
June 4th, 2014
@shezza Yep, it ran off into the hills screaming, never to be seen again
@nookie72 Thanks very much...I'd quite like to see the results too!
June 4th, 2014
Maybe it was the dead teddy bear's spirit coming back to reclaim something. Maybe his spirit had something to do with that damn timer? But, you don't believe in any of the spirit mumbo jumbo, do you! Needless to say, we are all our own hardest critic, as it should be. How would you get better if you thought everything you did was amazing?
June 5th, 2014
@eyeamlisa All valid points, and ll points I'm prepared to roll with ;)
June 5th, 2014
