Sorry to bore you all again with our mountain but when I got out of bed this morning I thought it looked particularly impressive.
It was covered in cloud about 5 minutes after I took this, and that is the danger of Mount Taranaki. A lot of people are under the misapprehension that he is an "easy" mountain but that is far from the truth. During this time of year there will normally be between 4 - 6 rescues a month, and always people that have gone up there thinking that they don't need to be fully equipped and prepared for all eventualities. He's certainly not as peaceful as he looks and is likely to change moods every 10 minutes on a good day, even in summer.
The Pouakai Ranges, "in front" of the mountain in this shot (taken from our garden) tend to funnel the wind and weather between themselves and the mountain proper, and any South-Westerly is a good time to batten down the hatches and stay indoors.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
I simply can't get my head round what a joy it must be to have this wonderful scene as a daily vista... I hope you know how privileged you both are, although I'm sure it is well merited (we-ell... fairly sure anyway)!
@vignouse We never tire of it - to be able to open the bedroom curtains and see this is well worth the effort of getting out of bed (@kimkyra may disagree). @mzzhope Thank you very much @blueberry1222 Thanks - some days it looms, other days it doesn't... @peter_1966 thank you @golftragic Thanks very much - right now it's on display again and very warm for July!
Ho I'm so bore by this shot! Graeme, bore me more and more and I will ask for more! This is a very good picture. Well framed, well expose! Be confident! Your are good and you have your own style. Not everyone has it! You have!
This is very pretty! Can you please climb the mountain and take a photo of you up the top, looking down on your house, with Kim waving from the bedroom window?? Next week will be fine, thank you very much!
@golftragic Apparently we're in for a week of fine weather, as strange as that may seem, so possibly on Tuesday we're going to do a walk into the foothills to Boars Head Mine, should be interesting if I live to tell the tale! @bigugly It certainly is. Such hard work to look at! @kali66 Ha! Imagine how I feel! 😉 @ukandie1 Thanks very much - I think eternal flatness would drive me insane(r)! @cailts Thanks (on behalf of Mother Nature) @daneau Thank you very much, always appreciated! @gigiflower Thanks. As for climbing it...ummmm...No. I have been to the top when I was in school, but now I'm old and feeble 😞 @jaynspain Thanks very much...it's difficult looking at this all the time...
It looks so volcanic , can see plumes of volcanic ash spewing from the summit, would be a change from the cold. Fabulous image of your great vista from the bedroom window :-)
@hermann thanks - it's classified as dormant, apparently it's about 50 years late for a "bang" but according to everyone around here the flows will go South so we should avoid being another Pompeii! @golftragic Neither do and so do I! @lynnilou thank you very much @chippy1402 thanks very much :) @creativefool Thanks very much, glad you like it @wearing0 Thank you very much @andreajoy Thanks and you're welcome ;) @ceilidh We're very lucky - my knees were playing up today so I figured I could away with it!
shots like this make me want to travel - the layers and colors are wonderful - I can't say this view would turn me in to a morning person - but it would certainly lessen the pain :)
@brigette Thank you very much @eyeamlisa Thanks a bunch :) @rachelwithey Thanks, always appreciated @taffy Thanks, it certainly is a sight worth seeing @roseolivia That it is! @deak68 Thanks very much - I'm by no means a morning person. In fact my best daily window of opportunity is between 11am and 1.30pm, but we have 2 dogs that demand walks so I'm forced to be awake!
Wonderful view! We look out at Pikes Peak from our house and I never tire of the view. At least once a day, I am amazed by the mountains. This view is wonderful. I would never get tired of seeing photos of it!
@mzzhope Thank you very much
