Death Becomes Her by graemestevens

Death Becomes Her

Yes, I dug it up again.
No, it didn't smell any better this time. In fact, it now officially reeked and I may have gagged a little.
On the other hand, after 2 months in the ground I think it's coming along nicely.
I also apologise unreservedly...and please, enjoy your meals.

Is that the sheeps head you set on fire ???
October 21st, 2014
@scolgs It is indeed...another 2 months and I should have a skull to play with...horrible though...
October 21st, 2014
@graemestevens it looks so gross ......
October 21st, 2014
You are brave - digging it up! Your neighbours might complain about the smell? And then there would be no friends to save you!
October 21st, 2014
Ahh, Graeme. Another great selfi...I mean subject.
October 21st, 2014
Hahaha I seriously stumbled upon this with a mouth full of cucumber. I was like..."Is that...meat?" And then I read your caption. What a completely awesome (if disgusting) idea. You officially rule.
October 21st, 2014
Bleh..brave man..good thing your not a gagger...:). Nice?
October 21st, 2014
@scolgs One thing I learned this morning...don't inhale...
@maggiemae What neighbours?
@bigugly LOL, Yes indeed...nearly...
@nanderson Brave is one way of putting it...it's vile and well buried again...
@keclark Thank you kindly - I like to lull people into a false sense of security and then do something like this, as vile as it may be ;)
October 21st, 2014
Ah yes... There's a name for this process... I read about it in regards to a dead great whale that's being flensed... Totally gross... Carry on!
October 21st, 2014
Gross.
October 21st, 2014
@northy The name you're looking for is "disturbed"...and thank you, I think I will ;)
October 21st, 2014
@epcello Agreed
October 21st, 2014
Redneckery is rubbing off on you!
October 21st, 2014
@kt8ird Yes, and I wish they'd stop rubbing off on me! ;)
October 21st, 2014
I couldn't make it out at first, but when I did, I gagged. Good day, Sir.
October 21st, 2014
@eyeamlisa I do apologise...have a lie down and come back tomorrow when I will be suitably loved up, docile, gentle and gentlemanly...for me anyway ;)
October 21st, 2014
Ewwww!!!! (Or perhaps ewe!!!?) LOL
October 21st, 2014
@cailts LOL, very good...I won't dig it up again until it's just skull. The smell was absolutely vile
October 21st, 2014
I just threw up in my throat a little . . .
October 21st, 2014
@graemestevens Well apparently having a burned up sheeps head buried in your backyard is extremely appealing!!
October 21st, 2014
@graemestevens I think I just might. I do have to applaud your persistance with that damn beast. However, if it has a ghost, it will surely haunt you now!
October 21st, 2014
Rank!!!
October 21st, 2014
@juliedduncan Welcome to the club...
@kt8ird That's probably where I've gone wrong
@eyeamlisa I hadn't thought of that...mind you, if it decides to haunt me I'm sure I can give it a run for it's money
@golftragic And then some...
October 21st, 2014
Oh my gosh! A sheeps head - while I'm eating my lunch! You could just pop it into some lime - doesn't that take the flesh off it. It does in all those cops shows!
October 21st, 2014
@888rachel I briefly debated about caustic soda as well...but I kind of like the idea of the worms and bugs getting something out of it as well...
October 21st, 2014
Eeeeewwwww. That's all I have to say about that!
October 21st, 2014
@tabarlett Seems to be a fairly standard reaction...which I share!
October 21st, 2014
Not sure why, but your decaying sheep's head made me smile. Weird!
October 21st, 2014
Thanks for that , I fortunately had finished my lunch except for a piece of apple that Mr Hermann gladly devoured . Must make a note to myself re Mr Stevens posts on 365, maybe not to view during lunch. Rock on :))
October 21st, 2014
@ukandie1 You're one of...well, one ;)
@hermann Sorry about that. I promise that tomorrow's shot will be much nicer.
October 21st, 2014
I bet that smell could gag a maggot. But I can't wait to see what you do with it when you finally have the skull.
October 21st, 2014
Beetles....flesh eating beetles....they do a lovely job getting it right down to the white bone....but I'm not so sure how they feel about the charred bits..
October 21st, 2014
Yikes, luckily I had my breakfast already, so missed one there;)
October 21st, 2014
@susale thank goodness for that - we can't have you going hungry!
@deak68 Now there's an idea - where can I get some?
@spikez It was truly vile...and I have a few ideas...
October 21st, 2014
Yuck, so why am I grinning?
October 21st, 2014
@ceilidh Don't panic, I've been feeling the same!
October 21st, 2014
I'm glad I had a shot or two (not the photographic kind) before running across this. Should you choose, this would also fit the tag oct14words for the day's word - bones. Just sayin'.

@ceilidh because it's Graeme

Way too many animal lovers on this site. I can't tell you here, Graeme, what my dad used to bury and dig up 2-4 months out to use as bait. The stench is what he was aiming for. I will tell you it was "aged" in quart jars. *shudders at the memory of that smell*

Hat's off to your continued experiment.
October 21st, 2014
@voiceprintz I had forgotten about that tag, thanks. As for the smell...delightful...and at least this way the bugs are getting something out of the transaction as well!
October 21st, 2014
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww................grose........
October 21st, 2014
@ceilidh me too..... Me too.... Delightful. Glad I've had breakfast though. His teeth look v black, sure you don't need to take him to the dentist?
October 21st, 2014
Looked again. If not forget subject and just look loosely at it it looks like an abstract painting my two year old brings home from preschool, colours all mushed into one brown muddy mess.
October 21st, 2014
Not where did that come from please delete not and read if forget....
October 21st, 2014
Oh wow - I'd forgotten so much that was happening on 365 and I come back to this - totallycool - Love it but so glad I can't smell it.
October 21st, 2014
@leanne333 yes, yes it is.
@newbank Yes, okay...glad you've eaten. Can't be having you going through the day hungry.
October 21st, 2014
@ingrid2101 Thank you...it took me quite some time to get the smell out of my nose and I was wearing a mask!
October 21st, 2014
Sue
Eeeeuuuw, but good on you for doing this! Erm, if you are far enough away from other people, why don't you start another fire and boil it? won't that get the remaining goop off? Oh, and a clothes peg might help instead of a mask? (Or as well as?)
October 21st, 2014
@sioux I'm kind of thinking that at least this way the soil and the bugs get something out of the transaction as well...but it is pretty gross
October 21st, 2014
Bleh, yuk!
October 21st, 2014
@overalvandaan Agreed. Tune in tomorrow for a nicer shot. I promise.
October 21st, 2014
Sam
it certainly take a long time for them to go to dust! I wonder if human beings are the same?
October 21st, 2014
Call me crazy, but I think it is still a candidate for being set on fire , again.
October 21st, 2014
You are a fascinating artist, Graeme. When I see photos like this, the first thing that comes to mind is the film, "American Beauty."
October 21st, 2014
Nutjob lol
can't wait - have to keep checking on it - it really is coming along nicely
@gigiflower I see no reason for humans to be much different
October 21st, 2014
Ugh...but a very strong image.
October 21st, 2014
Our Paddy would love to rub himself with this Graeme.
October 21st, 2014
Eeww gross
October 21st, 2014
I recognized this right away. I'm eating pizza right now, somewhat resembles it, but much better smell.
October 21st, 2014
@gigiflower I would imagine so - we're just meat and bones as well
@karlow75 Not going to call you crazy because it is a deserving candidate...can I stomach the smell???
@kareenking Thank you very much - the first thing that came to mind for me was 'why am I doing this' but I do know the film...
@annied That's me! It's looking pretty 'good'...another couple of months and it should be just peachy.
@taffy Agreed and thanks
@tonygig My two hounds were more than interested
@ounooi I completely agree
@bill_fe Anything would smell better than this did.
October 21st, 2014
What in earth is this I have come back to Graeme.......is that it's eye I am wondering.......very interesting & I could cope fine with all this gore if it wasn't for the pong but as I can't smell it do your worst!
October 21st, 2014
@happypat It's where it's eye used to be...and it is truly vile
October 21st, 2014
I was not quite sure what I was looking at but comments above enlightened me! Fascinating just the same, a bit weird but then it makes you so interesting!!
October 21st, 2014
Ha! you are an odd one. Dare I say, I am looking forward to the "finished" product?
October 21st, 2014
sigh.. what to say! Aren't there better things to do at the end of a day.. like enjoy a nice wine?!!
October 21st, 2014
@graemestevens it is you and I find it intriguing that you can repulse and amuse at the same time - what a wonderful gift
October 21st, 2014
@roseolivia Are we still talking about the photo? ;)
@mamamayerle I am, I am...and so am I!
@brigette There are indeed, which is precisely why I did this in the middle of the day ;)
@annied Thank you most graciously :)
October 22nd, 2014
I am not a squeamish person but this looks a little squeamishy!
October 22nd, 2014
@harbie If only you had a "scratch n sniff" screen ;)
October 22nd, 2014
The maggots are doing their thing! Thank GOD there is no scratch n sniff screen!!!
October 22nd, 2014
@lynnilou They're have a blast..It would be truly horrific if there was such a screen!
October 22nd, 2014
Haha... You're completely INSANE :p That damn thing will never get to be a skull... if you keep bothering the process ;)
October 24th, 2014
@lisatown it'll get there...leaving it alone in 3...2...1 ;)
October 24th, 2014
Lee
Last year I came across a skull of a sheep already cleaned. I don't think i'd have the patience to do your method, but I look forward to the seeing result. Here's mine if you'd care to see. http://365project.org/gamelee/choices/2013-10-11 http://365project.org/gamelee/365/2013-10-11
October 25th, 2014
@gamelee awesome shot - this weekend I've managed to pick up a skull and a couple of jawbones...
October 26th, 2014
As a newbie, just come across your beautiful shot. Having 'processed' a number of animal remains myself, I empathise enthusiastically. And will start photographing more of my work. Thanks
January 10th, 2015
@mothermalarky Excellent - this one is nearly ready! I'll be digging it up in another week or so
