This morning we attended a Kinetic Sculpture workshop at our local Museum/Art Gallery. On our arrival we were presented with boxes and boxes of what were told was 'junk' to disassemble so that we could make sculptures. While others were stripping down typewriters, hair dryers and vacuum cleaners, Kim and I purloined a box of old and defunct cameras, lenses, flashes and associated equipment and spent 3 hours dismantling and marvelling that people would think of these as 'junk'...and then we made a hasty escape having achieved no sculpture but a box of fascinating bits and pieces.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
@karlow75 This is by no means all of them....we have a total of 4 camera bodies, 6 lenses, a few flashes...bits and pieces...something to do on a rainy day!
@homeschoolmom Thanks very much - so do I but I never seem to have the bits and pieces to do anything with...until now @taffy Thank you very much :) @ceilidh It was a great workshop, couldn't believe the amount of photography equipment they were binning! @mzzhope Thanks very much indeed :) @julzmaioro Thanks very much :)
@tomtom Thanks very much...no one told me I had to put it back together! @jess1204 Thanks very much, it was a great way to spend the morning. @aecasey Thanks very much :) @brigette Thanks very much - so do I but until now I didn't really have anything I could work with!
Living in rural Brittany, Steampunk was only a name that meant nothing to me so your post led me to Google it. It all makes sense now - like this image and `i am sure that we will be seeing lots of Steampunk from you in the future as it fits perfectly with your style. I envy you all the camera bits to experiment with though once you've bought the necessary converters!
@newbank There's far to much of it to be my brain... @pamknowler Thank you very much :) @northy Thanks very much - couldn't quite believe what we'd found! @gigiflower I'd be more worried about them coming out the other end! @annied Much thanking kind lady @lleo Thank you very much - the trouble is, now we have to find somewhere to put all this stuff! @hermann Thank you very much :) @vignouse Thank you very much - there are time when I wish I lived in rural Brittany! @joysfocus Thanks very much :) @nanderson Thanks very much - it was a fun way to spend the day @bigugly Thank you kindly good sir @denisefuller Thank you very much :) @rosiekerr Thees always a lack of light in our house ;) And thanks very much @janiskay Thank you very much :)
I hope you took the 'junk' off their hands....seems incredible that someone would think of this as junk. Has made a brilliant sculpture though especially for us camera mad folks! I like your photo!
lol.. when I first clicked on your name to bring up your page, the whole screen was filled with this image, and I thought "cool, very steampunk-ish" and then I scrolled down and saw the title. SWEET
@graemestevens I don't normally pay attention to the profile stuff, unless I find a new person to follow. I have no idea what caught my eye, maybe "nutbar"... Haha
I don't know how Steampunk escaped my radar, but I, too, had to look it up, and now I find it fascinating. I would kill for all those camera parts, flashes, and lenses, but then they would just join all the construction materials that I amass just because Someday I will make Something with them!! Maybe I should just photograph them!
This is a fabulous image....skull and discarded photo equipment put to excellent use....great composition and lighting....looking forward to more creative shots with your loot!
@yaorenliu It seems dot be quiet all night, which could be just as worrying... @tabarlett Thanks very much :) @panthora Thanks very much - we couldn't believe what we'd found! @chippy1402 Thanks very much - what is the world coming to?
Had to look up steampunk, thought is was a music style, but hey, it's something else interesting. Great use of 'junk' and skull. Really like the lighting!
I didn't have to look up steam punk! :) It's a style I adore. You've incorporated it well in this shot! Happy disassembling on a rainy day. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! :)
