Steampunk Skull by graemestevens

Steampunk Skull

This morning we attended a Kinetic Sculpture workshop at our local Museum/Art Gallery. On our arrival we were presented with boxes and boxes of what were told was 'junk' to disassemble so that we could make sculptures. While others were stripping down typewriters, hair dryers and vacuum cleaners, Kim and I purloined a box of old and defunct cameras, lenses, flashes and associated equipment and spent 3 hours dismantling and marvelling that people would think of these as 'junk'...and then we made a hasty escape having achieved no sculpture but a box of fascinating bits and pieces.
Free lenses and flashes, woo hoo!! Great shot of them too.

@karlow75 This is by no means all of them....we have a total of 4 camera bodies, 6 lenses, a few flashes...bits and pieces...something to do on a rainy day!

Living in rural Brittany, Steampunk was only a name that meant nothing to me so your post led me to Google it. It all makes sense now - like this image and `i am sure that we will be seeing lots of Steampunk from you in the future as it fits perfectly with your style. I envy you all the camera bits to experiment with though once you've bought the necessary converters!

I hope you took the 'junk' off their hands....seems incredible that someone would think of this as junk. Has made a brilliant sculpture though especially for us camera mad folks! I like your photo!
November 1st, 2014
Interesting shot. Nice that you have updated your profile description to more honestly describe yourself. :-)
November 2nd, 2014

November 2nd, 2014
Quite an interesting assemblage, and you are right -- it definitely has a "steampunk" feel to it. And what treasures you gathered!
November 2nd, 2014
@graemestevens I don't normally pay attention to the profile stuff, unless I find a new person to follow. I have no idea what caught my eye, maybe "nutbar"... Haha
November 2nd, 2014
NIce that you have fit one of them into the eye socket. I hope that it did not zzzzz… at night and turning around looking.
November 2nd, 2014
Very cool!
November 2nd, 2014
I don't know how Steampunk escaped my radar, but I, too, had to look it up, and now I find it fascinating. I would kill for all those camera parts, flashes, and lenses, but then they would just join all the construction materials that I amass just because Someday I will make Something with them!! Maybe I should just photograph them!
This is a fabulous image....skull and discarded photo equipment put to excellent use....great composition and lighting....looking forward to more creative shots with your loot!
November 2nd, 2014
Interesting shot. Kinetic sculpture whatever next :-)
