Rafters by graemestevens

Rafters

Another shot from the defunct Cardiff Dairy Factory. Personally I think that is an abundance of places from which to hang a corpse or two or seven, but we'll just have to see how the week progresses.
Best viewed on black if you have the time or inclination.
oh yes... this could get extremely macabre! love the focal point of the lightbulb hanging down in the foreground...

@northy Thank you very much - I played around with it in LR for a while...would have liked it a bit darker but it just seemed to lose something.
November 16th, 2014
Some solid pieces of wood here in the ceiling holding this building together!
November 16th, 2014
@maggiemae I don't think it's in any immediate danger of collapse, more of a gradual fade
November 16th, 2014
hmmm... not sure you'd want it darker, necessarily, but perhaps a touch more contrast? and maybe a bit of vignetting to keep the eye from slipping off the bottom of the image?
November 16th, 2014
@northy Thank you for that - I'll have a play after work and see how it looks, much appreciated ;)
November 16th, 2014
@graemestevens hey Graeme, one thing i almost always do with my black and white images is turn on the highlight and dark clipping thingy... (I think you just click on J?) that way i can make sure there are some true blacks and some true whites - although for the most part i try not to blow out the details...
November 17th, 2014
@northy Awesome - I feel 'play time' coming on :)
November 17th, 2014
My husband getting worried about you Graeme! Bodies? Yikes! Nice glow on the light bulb though
November 17th, 2014
@trinda You live far away enough to be quite safe...and thanks :)
November 17th, 2014
You weren't swinging from them, were you?
November 17th, 2014
@amandal Like a monkey!
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens So fun!!! Selfie of that?!:)
November 17th, 2014
@amandal A photo of me plummeting to my doom...hmmmm
November 17th, 2014
Just love your commentary. It makes my day!
November 17th, 2014
@888rachel Why thank you - pleased to be of assistance :)
November 17th, 2014
I see what you mean about wanting to make this a little more edgy. FWIW, I would have pulled the Highlights slider all the way over to the left; pushed the shadows slider all the way over to the right; set a white and black point whilst holding down the Alt key (or whatever the equivalent is on a Mac) in order to see the onset of clipping and then pushed up Clarity until I got the right edgy feel... give it a try.
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens Hmmm, maybe not...just making silly monkey faces would be fun. Hard to work the remote or camera, though.
November 17th, 2014
@amandal I could always set the timer and make a run for it.
@vignouse wow, thanks for that - very much appreciated. Playtime is going to be a blast tonight :)
November 17th, 2014
Great lines.
November 17th, 2014
@kt8ird Thank you very much
November 17th, 2014
What a great idea Graeme. This could be a whole new industry for the area.
November 17th, 2014
@golftragic Absolutely, and I can already think of a few candidates
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens I bet you can, me too. Rural areas need growth industries.
November 17th, 2014
Oh, yes - looks like the ropes are already there for the hanging! Fantastic light here, love those old rafters!
November 17th, 2014
I know where there is one but you can't have him!
November 17th, 2014
Cool angles and lines!
November 17th, 2014
Excellent lines here... even my hubby, casting a casual eye across this, said, "nice shot." So, two thumbs up on the composition, lines and general gritty, abandoned feel.
November 17th, 2014
are you hanging a corpse from yesterday or are you still letting the wanker suffer hahahahahaha
this is cool I love rafters and rafts for that matter - and I like hanging too
November 17th, 2014
I looked closer and it also looks like something the cannibalistic imbred mountain folk previously mentioned may have has a hideout
November 17th, 2014
@annied I'm letting the twat suffer...and yes, it does like like a good hideout for general redneckery and it's associated practices. Further evidence will be presented in tomorrows shot...
@rosiekerr Thank you to both you and your husband :)
@epcello Thank you very much :)
@deliad Definitely not - I'm sure I can rustle up a few of my own
@tabarlett Thank you so much :)
@golftragic Without doubt - I'll start working on a business plan immediately
November 17th, 2014
Nothing like a good light Bulb to bat around. It reminds me of a film called "The Stepfather". There were a few guys in an Adelaide town called Snowtown who had a few ideas with what to do with bodies :)
November 17th, 2014
Oh, great shot too. I got a little carried away with the light bulb batting.
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens oooh I look forward to it - but am also a little scared - if I had a fear of anything it would be cannibalistic imbred mountain folk capturing me in the woods
November 17th, 2014
Jolly good, just make sure you include all the bullshit bingo terms in it!
November 17th, 2014
@karlow75 Thanks very much - you can never have too much light bulb batting...
@annied No need to be scared but I managed to get a great shot of the inside...processing now...
@golftragic Oh without doubt - I've had them all thrown at me so I know them by heart!
November 17th, 2014
@vignouse @northy Just wanted to say a big, mushy, heartfelt thanks for your advice above. I've been processing the next shot and what a difference! Thank you both so much :)
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens hahaha have you watched Wrong Turn - those folk are scary hahahahaha
November 17th, 2014
@karlow75 oh Kane - that Snow Town guy was horrific - the documentary about that was so unnerving - hope he never gets out of jail
November 17th, 2014
@annied I haven't...now I have to...
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens whenever I am in those bushland type places I always keep an eye out for razor wire across the road and an ear out for maniacal laughter - although I assume the laughter could be you :)
November 17th, 2014
@annied My laughter is often hysterical as well, so don't go counting on it always being me...
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens I will be careful to make a note of that - don't want to be used for dinner
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens or expanding the gene pool - although they don't really worry about or understand the importance of that - or maybe they do hahahaha
November 17th, 2014
@annied I don't think there's much 'expanding' going on...
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens hahahahahahaha
November 17th, 2014
great shot love the textures and lines.
November 17th, 2014
@andrewkru Thank you very much
November 17th, 2014
Sam
Will you take a photo of the corpses please?
November 17th, 2014
trust you! I just return from hols and doing a catch up and you talk of hangings! who has got up your nose now? interesting shot
November 17th, 2014
Great B/ W, wonderful old wood.
November 17th, 2014
Sue
What a great place to visit!
November 17th, 2014
Very cool
November 17th, 2014
@gigiflower Are you getting desperate for dead things and fire again?
@pinkpaintpot Thanks very much - I'm fine at the moment, I just like to hang people to pass the time ;)
@tonygig Thanks very much :)
@sioux One more decent shot to come...
@eyeamlisa Thank you kindly nice lady
November 17th, 2014
@graemestevens oh that's nice, I can think of better ways to past the time why not become a life model or take up knitting- oh no lets keep you away from any string!
November 17th, 2014
Great place to explore and to shoot lots of pictures.
November 17th, 2014
Awesomeness!
November 17th, 2014
@pinkpaintpot Knitting? I don't have the patience for that!
@overalvandaan Thanks - got a few decent shots :)
@livvy Thank you very much
November 17th, 2014
I worked in mental health services for many years.. and this give me the same vibe as an old psyche ward.. perhaps just that sense of abandonment...
November 18th, 2014
@brigette It could well be...I trained as a nurse (keep that to yourself if you please) and the psyche module, for me anyway, was the worst of the lot!
November 18th, 2014
@graemestevens your secret is safe with me! I worked as an occupational therapist in MH services for nearly 20 years!! I mostly enjoyed then just got burnt out as you do
November 18th, 2014
Oh my, your mind is truly into the dark!, not a thought that passes most people's thought when they see a beam!
November 18th, 2014
Hmm....No I didn't think of hanging bodies.
November 18th, 2014
Great light in this
November 18th, 2014
Cool shot, dark one :-)
November 18th, 2014
@happypat Snigger - I'm a sick puppy ;)
@newbank Really...I can't be the only one!
@ceilidh Thank you very much :)
@jaynspain Thanks very much :)
November 18th, 2014
but before they are corpses.
November 19th, 2014
@bill_fe Most definitely, I like to see them thrash about a bit
November 19th, 2014
More great textures and love all the lines :)
November 19th, 2014
@shawnasays Thanks very much :)
