Just a simple shot today as I have no time for anything else. My Line Manager, who is moving on to a new role within the business, arrived yesterday afternoon to carry out my annual appraisal and had in tow his successor to the throne. Said heir to the realm did not shake my hand when introduced, did not or could not maintain eye contact, declined the offer to 'sit in' on my appraisal and, having just left, had said a total of four words to me today..."see you next year". Still no hand shake or eye contact. I am left struggling to see how I should form any lasting impression or maintain any respect for this individual when even common human courtesies are excluded. On the bright side, I had some feedback from my interview earlier this week which has me pegged as (apparently) the "strongest interview" of the five candidates...this does not mean that I have the position (despite the fact that I would dearly love that to be true, but there are other factors), so now...we wait.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
Interesting inter-action with new manager prospect. My thought from your description was that perhaps new heir isn't really planning on coming on board, so cannot fully engage. That, or heir feeling guilty for taking strongest candidate's spot. Reminds me of when my brother was laid off after 17 years but considered too fuddy duddy for the new computer systems a salesman was selling the owner. Company got the new computer system, and it broke the company! They had to hire 6 very high priced guys to replace my brother and they still never got that computer to do the jobs the old computer had been programmed to do by my brother.
@trinda Big companies can be such wonderful creatures... @bill_fe Thank you - he cane as discouraging as he likes, I won't be there long if I have my way. @ltodd Thank you very much @spanner Thanks very much, always appreciated @golftragic I know! And thank you :) @amandal Nothing...yet... ;) @aecasey Thank you...many people do at times...
I love the strength, determination and sheer grit which delineates this wonderful character portrait. All features and characteristics which will see you through this time...
This is an awesome portrait. It does portray determination, which we certainly need to get by. Quite obviously the "successor" has no people skills, and hopefully you won't have to deal with these people much longer anyway.
@karlow75 Thank you very much - I continue to live in hope :) @ingrid2101 That was my lasting impression as well, and thank you very much. @vignouse Thank you very much kind sir - I will make it through and be better for it on the other side. or greyer and balder.
Wow,,, what a mean expression,, I hope that you get where you want to be x either way enjoy and be happy!! would love to see a happy picture of you posted before christmas xxx
@vignouse Not at all - I've been grey since the ripe old age of 21 and I enjoy looking distinguished @amyleewinfield Thank you very much - I'm scared that if I smile I'll rupture something...
Where I'm from we have a seven-letter word for ppl such as the one you describe. In the event you have younger followers, it is brought to us by the letter A. Sorry the *gentle cough* protege was so socially inept. I'll hold positive thoughts that the new opportunity bears prosperous fruit in your favor.
so sorry your first impression of the newbie manager was a bust... i'm kind of appalled on your behalf, actually... i keep wondering what the heir was thinking (is he shy? freaked out? not planning to hang around too long?) because there must have been SOME reason for his behaviour.. i can't imagine hiring someone like that to be a line manager!!!!!
@kt8ird Thank you very much :) @voiceprintz Thanks very much - we have the same word here as well... @northy Thank you...and yes...tick tock tick tock ;)
Eeek! I would not refuse you any business request you made, with that look. :) The lighting is terrific. Good luck with the random corporate side of life.
I am going to practice that look - even so far as trying to get the eyebrows to play along - I don't think I do scorn quite so well - I like this a great deal
@wenbow Thank you nice lady :) @susale Thank you very much indeed :) @annied It seems to be a common look for me of late - the sooner I'm out the better, before I get even more bitter and twisted. @ounooi Thank you very much @rosiekerr No, you would not ;) And thanks very much @tabarlett Thank you very much, on both counts. As for smiling, I hate my teeth and would only rupture an internal organ if I so much as grinned
I imagine he got those soft handshakes I cannot stand. It makes me shiver and paralyze. You got to share your secret of the light source for this shot. It is superbly 3D.
@overalvandaan Thank you very much and yes, but not for long @yaorenliu Thanks very much - I'm sitting next to a window and using the Softbox app on the iPad @andrewkru Thank you very much :)
Brilliant scorn. Perhaps heard rumoursabout your knife collection and what you have buried in garden? Seriously though hope good news comes soon re jobs.
ok now that is really bad, bad for business, bad for the "knob" himself and just downright "rude". What a total knob. I so hope you get the job Graeme, good luck and a really good shot after all that lol :-)
Makes you wonder what sort of firm could employ someone like that with no people skills in such a responsible job. If you move onwards & upwards perhaps you won't need to see him again with any luck! Thank goodness it's only a once a year appraisal! Fingers crossed!
Hello to you too. Im willing for the end of term so the crank that is winding the kids up into a heightened frenzy can stop turning and rather than discussing with 2 year olds the necessities of getting dressed we can spend whole days in pjs in front of the google box. In all the other holidays I encourage activity, mental stimulation, fresh air, wholesome experiences. Christmas hols though are for pjs, chocolates, telly, biscuits, more telly, sleep......
@graemestevens actually I have become quite twisted of late with a good helping of bitter - it is because I have been surrounded by idiots who annoy the crap out of me.
Maybe a good thing there was no hand shake. My experience with people who cannot make eye contact is they also have a limp handshake. Like shaking hands with a piece of tripe! Great self portrait, mate!
@tomtom Thanks very much - I have a vague suspicion that his palms were probably sweaty as well @redpants Thanks very much :) @annied Twisted indeed...my favourite ;) And all idiots should be shot at dawn! @sioux Thank you very much - I'm hoping I don't see him again. @hermann He does sound like a right tosser, which is the exact impression I got - and thank you @newbank Christmas is our long Summer holiday here, but we do miss the whole winter Christmas thing...and glad to hear you plan on taking it easy @happypat Thank you and yes, everything crossed... @leanne333 I've always loved calling people knobs ;) And thank you @gigiflower It won't happen again
Nobody does scorn better than you!! If I were him, I would be very, very afraid....but, you won't be around long enough to instill fear in his heart! Good luck Graeme.....you deserve better!
@bill_fe Thank you - he cane as discouraging as he likes, I won't be there long if I have my way.
@ltodd Thank you very much
