The Homestead by graemestevens

The Homestead

I imagine that at some time this would have been a comfortable family home, overflowing with love, laughter, memories and all the small things that transform a house in to a home.
Then the father went mad and in the middle of the night, while everyone slept soundly, cut their throats and buried their still warm corpses in a shallow grave under the vegetable garden.
Or something like that anyway. Quite why it still needs a power supply I don't know.
Love the pov, great shot.

@bigugly Thanks very much - the POV is courtesy of me being too lazy to get out of the car...

I guess it is cheaper and easier to wait for places like this to fall down then to hire someone to remove them or take them down.
September 9th, 2015
@janiskay You're probably right there
September 9th, 2015
Love your commentary - maybe he actually stored them in the freezer, hence the electricity...
September 9th, 2015
@alinz There's a point. It's what I'd do.
September 9th, 2015
Get out...for real? How creepy as hell!
September 9th, 2015
disturbing... i think you've captured the mood to match the write up! (or maybe vice versa ;p)
September 9th, 2015
Wonderful pic, could have happened, may be
September 9th, 2015
I like how your processing makes this look more eerie and disturbing than it probably is.
September 9th, 2015
Great photo, shame about the history
September 9th, 2015
Great story to accompany this moody shot! Perhaps the power is because there's someone or something still in there... it's a good thing you didn't get out of the car.

@kerosene I'd been driving for 4 hours and had finally found the perfect, comfortable position. I wasn't going to give it up for anybody.
@deliad Thanks very much - I don't know if my version of events is the truth at all, but I'll roll with it ;)
@888rachel It was actually quite a nice day, but I like disturbed ;)
@photographycrazy Thank you very much - I'll never tell ;)
@northy Thank you kindly - I've processed this twice. The first time wasn't gloomy enough!
@amandal Good lord no, I was safe and comfortable where I was!
September 9th, 2015
Great lines and contrasts! Your story would make a good movie! :)!
September 9th, 2015
I just love your gritty processing. Dark and moody and fitting of your creepy story!
September 9th, 2015
A disturbing story Graeme! The power pole frames the shot nicely.
September 9th, 2015
I suppose the warm corpses now are stiff frozen. Lots of power needed to keep it that way.
September 9th, 2015
Bahahahaha
from paragraph one to two......f*ck I collapsed
Power....well the father was never found
September 9th, 2015
@harbie Thanks very much - movie be damned, I need to get off my backside and write a book!
@pixelchix Thanks very much - I processed this twice, the second time right "over the top" of the existing processing as I just wasn't happy with it
@dibzgreasley Thanks very much - if I wasn't disturbed I'd be "normal". Heaven forbid.
@mastermek I'll go and dig them up and let you know ;)
@annied He never was, and hasn't been seen since...apparently...
September 9th, 2015
Great write-up for a moody shot.
September 9th, 2015
@gazdi Thanks very much :)
September 9th, 2015

September 9th, 2015
@pepeblond Thanks very much - I'm not going back at night though...
September 9th, 2015
On that note I guess I'll crawl into bed, hopefully not to dream!!!!
September 9th, 2015
@trinda Sweet dreams ;)
September 9th, 2015
Just waiting for you to move in.
September 9th, 2015
A very malevolent story attached to this malevolent image. well done :)
September 9th, 2015
Maybe instead of burying the corpses he stored them in a refrigerator, that's why he still needs electricity :)
September 9th, 2015
@nitrogene That could be it, but I'm not going back for a look...
@hermann Thanks very much :)
@joansmor It's nearly ready...
September 9th, 2015

@tonygig Thank you kindly ;)
@kwind Thank you very much :)
September 10th, 2015
That is one seriously disturbed mind....and, the electricity is probably for the transients still living in that house! I bet the vegetable garden is doing real well...
September 10th, 2015
@panthora With fertiliser like that I have no doubt...
September 10th, 2015
