relief by graemestevens

relief

This shot is not up to my usual standards but I don't actually care today. Last Thursday we took one of our Greyhounds, Lucy, to the vet to have her teeth cleaned and also for a couple of extractions. A friend of ours, who also has a greyhound, had put their dog in a couple of weeks prior to this for dental work as well, and as their dog is a "known bleeder" the vet had ordered in two bags of plasma. Our friends dog did not bleed...this was extremely lucky for us as Lucy certainly did. Had it not been for the vet having two bags of plasma just lying around we would have lost Lucy. They had even gone as far as having another dog prepped and ready to give a transfusion. As a result of all the associated drama we didn't actually get Lucy back with us until yesterday - the vet and his wife had dedicated themselves completely to saving Lucy, so much so that they slept on the floor of the clinic in order to be there with her at all times, and we were under instructions to keep our phones very handy as there were times over the last 4 days when they thought we may have needed to get down there. It's been what can only be called a shit of a weekend...hence the relief.
Oh dear, never heard of this condition with dogs before! Good thing you were prepared! The relief shows in this picture!

October 25th, 2016
Ok... this is a great shot... But what an ordeal with poor Lucy. That really sucks - but glad she's back with you. A lot to be said for such dedicated vets!
October 25th, 2016
Just happy that things finally came out alright. Poor Lucy.
October 25th, 2016
Your vet and his wife sound amazing. Lucy was obviously in very good hands. Glad all turned out ok.

Love the shot too. Lol
October 25th, 2016
@katrinanz Thank you and yes, they're pretty cool people.
@gardencat We all are, just lots of follow up to be done!
@kerosene They certainly went above and beyond, and I'm sure the bill will too...
@lifepause Thank you very much - she's on the road to recovery, lots of bedrest
@northy Thank you (awesome image from @cromwell ) and yes, very frightening, stressful etc etc
@shylaine3304 Thank you very much :)
@monty147 A huge relief, and thank you
@maggiemae Dental issues are fairly common with greyhounds, but the bleeding has become something of a mystery for all involved...investigations are underway
October 25th, 2016
Oh no poor Lucy.... Glad that she's on the mend. I hope the vet billis not too horrendous.
October 25th, 2016
Oh poor Lucy, so glad it all turned ok and she is back with you. I can understand how you felt the last couple of days. Great to be so loved and cared for. Thumbs up for those great vets too.
October 25th, 2016
@mona65 They certainly outdid themselves
@deborah63 I may need another mortgage...
October 25th, 2016
amazing good fortune I would think firstly to have such a dedicated vet and for the plasma to be on hand. Hope you survive the vet bill!
October 25th, 2016
You are so lucky to have such a dedicated and kind vet couple. And I am please not seeing the "shit" weekend here.
October 25th, 2016
A terrific capture. So glad Lucy is ok. Sounds like she had top vets looking after and to stay with her sleeping on the floor just shows their dedication to the animal world.
October 25th, 2016
What a story. How old is Lucy? I fear I should be expecting something with my Ala - who's a Viszla with 11,5 years... However, the photo says it all!
October 25th, 2016
@domenicododaro She's 9 now, so it may be age related - she also has discoid lupus so it could be something to do with that as well.
@paul10 They're certainly dedicated and seem to be blaming themselves more than I'm comfortable with!
@yaorenliu That was the other option for a shot...
@hrs I may need a second mortgage although they have told us that they won't be charging for "hospitalisation and consumables"...
October 25th, 2016
Oh no, what a terrible time you've had but so happy to hear Lucy is going to be OK. You have incredibly dedicated vets.
October 25th, 2016
@nickspicsnz We are very lucky to have those two!
October 25th, 2016
Thank goodness it all turned out ok for you and Lucy. Those vets need a medal for their dedication.
October 25th, 2016
What a awful time for you and Lucy. Excellent and caring vets and like your little touch of humour :)
October 25th, 2016
I'm so glad to hear Lucy was in great hands and she is home again. I can definitely understand your relief. BTW, funny shot.
October 25th, 2016
The photo gets a laugh but your doggie tale sounds distressing but good to hear Lucy is okay.
October 25th, 2016
Such dedication! Fantastic to hear and have a happy ending. Picture is a pissah
October 25th, 2016
Happy to hear about Lucy! When I first looked at your shot I thought you were just taking the p#ss, but then I read your story!!!
October 25th, 2016
@alinz Me? Take the piss? Never!
@kevin365 Thank you kindly - they certainly went above and beyond.
@adayinmallacoota Thank you and yes, it was a touch stressful.
@novab Thank you and yes, good to have her back.
@hermann Thank you very much - there has to be humour or it's just not worth it
@dide They'll get a cake...I'm not sure if that's up there with a medal, but it will do for now
October 25th, 2016
Great idea , Glad your Dog is OK...There is a big heart behind that gruff exterior of yours....
October 25th, 2016
@jack4john I usually try and keep it deeply buried but sometimes it makes itself known...
October 25th, 2016
I'm the same and blush profusely when I'm caught......
October 25th, 2016
Dedication like that is worth its weight in gold, lucky you to have vets like that near you. Poor Lucy, I bet you didn't expect that! Thank goodness she has pulled through but a big bill!!
October 25th, 2016
Fantastic photo too btw!
October 25th, 2016
@jack4john It's nothing of not embarrassing
@happypat No one was expecting it and investigations of blood etc are underway to see what can be found out...as for the bill, sigh. Add it to the pile.
October 25th, 2016
Brilliant set up.
October 25th, 2016
Great photo Graeme - too good!

October 26th, 2016
@vignouse They are indeed, total legends
October 26th, 2016
Family members come in all shapes, sizes, breeds, and occupations, I hope Lucy is relaxing from her ordeal. I am glad that she and you and your vet came through this trauma and all is better. Your image does sum up what you went through very well.
October 26th, 2016
OMG, what a tale... and a helluva weekend. So relieved that Lucy pulled through, with the heroic efforts of her caring medical team. What "relief!" :)
October 26th, 2016
How terrible for all concerned, not the least of whom being Lucy. So good to hear that she's come through it all OK. Must've been very, very stressful for you folks. Give her a big hug from our Maggie.
October 26th, 2016
@golftragic Done and yes, horrifically stressful. I had to resort to getting the garden in order to keep my mind off it all.
@rosiekerr They're are living legends and fully welcome to charge me accordingly.
@joysabin Thank you very much - Lucy is recovering well, which is the important thing.
October 26th, 2016
Hahaha! That's all I have to say.
October 26th, 2016
Oh, my! Glad your dog is OK. Scary.
October 26th, 2016
@homeschoolmom It was touch and go but she's recovering nicely - thanks
