Some of you asked to see yesterdays shot by the light of day and I am nothing if not obliging, so I returned to the scene of the crime today and committed further effrontery to the art of photography.
The reflection on the left hand side of the building is our clock tower. The reflection on the right is an historic building that used to be the White Hart hotel (and also the home of debauchery in New Plymouth) - it has now been repurposed and while the facade remains the interior is home to a cocktail bar, cafe, pizzeria, architect, interior designer and an upmarket clothing store.
The smaller building on the far right, to the rear of the shininess, is the original art gallery which is still in use as part of the new gallery, housing smaller exhibitions, a cafe and the obligatory gift shop.
What I like the most about this building, and this may sound pretentious but I don't care, is the way that it changes every day, the way it plays with the light and the weather. It's lush.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
I can't but agree with your considerations about the building. It is indeed a very clever piece of architecture and - no matter what detractors may think or say - it interacts in a very beautiful way with the surrounding. I think the art of photography will not consider itself offended by this shot!
Wow, what an amazing building! I'm coming to Auckland for a conference in early July and then I'm doing a whirlwind tour in 9 days! Looking forward to seeing your neck of the woods but probably won't make it over to your side of North Island!
@rustymonkey Thanks very much :) @hrb73 Thank you very much - hurrah for good skies!!! @vignouse Thank you very much indeed (although I can't speak for the architect but I do imagine he'd be pleased) :) @dibzgreasley That's outrageous...you can't come to NZ and not visit Redneckville... @julzmaioro We have one thing then... ;) @caterina Thank you very much :) @jamibann Thank you very much :) @bintal Thank you times 4... @mona65 Thank you very much :) @domenicododaro I hope not, I'd like to be allowed to continue with the photography... ;)
Wow that is amazing, I think the grumbles need to eat their words! Will bring visitors to your town I think! I like it better than the cows in Morrinsville! Fave.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! I can see so much in it that I think it tells many stories. The light, like you said is what is the best thing about it. Yes, I love it! fav
Once again, a stunning facade! It's beyond me how ANYONE might find the beauty of this to be objectionable! And I quite like the old art gallery alongside...it looks like a piece of Wedgwood.
At the risk of embarrassing your delicate sensivities, this is absolutely fabulous. That is one amazing piece of architecture and you've captured it very well indeed. Take a bow. Any photographic muse that objects is a total loser.
@golftragic Thank you kindly - some would think I didn't capture it well enough and decided to edit it to suit their tastes without bothering to ask me, but hey...whatever ;) @pistache Thank you very much :) @Weezilou I know right? Some people... @joansmor I shall pass that on to those responsible ;) @tracie8266 The architect is completely to blame... @stownsend Thanks very much - sometimes I wish I was an architect... @happypat It has bought visitors in...but that's still not good enough for some of them...sigh @humphreyhippo It is quite modern for it's surrounds but I think it works better for that...what would I know though? ;) @adi314 Thanks and you're welcome... @lynnz Thank you very much :) @777margo Thanks very much :) @dide Thank you kindly :) @joannakate Excellent - at least I've made one person happy today ;) @alinz I would hate to meet someones expectations ;) @pamknowler Thank you very much :) @fbailey Thanks very much :)
judging by the low point of view , were you maybe after a few cocktails in the white heart hotel? really interesting building , and thanks for going back in daylight .fav
@pools82 Thanks very much :) @rosiekerr Thank you very much :) @stownsend Someone should stop me... @juliedduncan Thank you very much :) @jack4john I'll never tell...I don't need to really, the evidence seems quite clear.
