This is the first year this hibiscus plant has bloomed for me and I wanted to get some pictures of it before the blossoms were gone! After I took some shots I realized there was a bee in there helping himself to the pollen. Not as clear as I would have liked but the wind was blowing and I was not using a tripod so I am OK with the shot!
Wow, that is one amazing flower, Katy. Love the colors and the detail that you captured so well. Nice bonus of the bee inside covered with pollen. Extremely windy here today also. Had a layer of pollen and everything that blows through the air on a day like today on the top of the water in our nice clean pool.
@karenann Thanks very much, KarenAnn. There were actually two in there for a second but I couldn't get the shot. Now I see how bees help pollinate flowers,though.
@darsphotos I appreciate your kind words as always,Darlene! As for the pollen covering everything we get that every year in the early spring for a week or two. There is a fine yellow dust covering EVERYTHING. Cars. houses, pools, plants it is all covered. Usually a good rain will take care of it but sometimes it takes a while to get that rain!
@grammyn We have not had much rain and there is none in the forecast this time of the year. Almost done with the dry winds today. Lots of leaves, chucks of trees and tons of pollen in the bottom of our pool. I have never seen pollen like that in our pool. Wow.
Ohhh pretty! The dog killed our pink hibiscus, it didn't come back last year. Our red one blooms later. Yours has such a nice color! That's an awfully clear shot for windy!
@m9f9l Thank you so much! It wasn't so much windy as breezy perhaps. Enough to make them blow around but not steady so I tried to catch it in between! ;~}
@peterdegraaff@grammyn - I am lead to believe you simply dry the petals of the Red Hibiscus and then steep in water like you would a normal tea. Is this correct Peter?
Oh wow! I think I was telepathically sending you photo ideas again! LOL! Check this out.... http://365project.org/espyetta/365/2011-08-16 I like how you got the stamen thing (or is it the pistil?) in yours....I wish I had had my DSLR when I took mine and you would be able to see the bug better. Oh well.
@espyetta Keep the ideas coming girl! I think your bee turned out much better than mine. Thanks for the kind words about the stamen (or pistil) I am still not sure which and I just looked it up!
