My grandmother's dresser. It came from the bedroom I used to sleep in when l visited her and my grandfather for a week in the summers. Stored by my younger sister. Recently delivered to me by my older younger sister. lt is filled with aprons and quilts made by my grandmother and her daughter, my mother. On the left are carpentry books that were my grandfather's. Copyrighted 1923, 1939 and reprinted 1943. In the center, on a doily she crocheted, is my grandmother's sewing basket still filled with notions from over a half century ago. The bowl on the right is from their 50th wedding anniversay celebration. To the right of the dresser on a quilt rack is another quilt she made and a rag rug she knitted.
Katy, the part that I love is the vase in the reflection! It seems like it should also be setting on the dresser, but it's not there. A great "through the looking glass" moment :)
@jmrittle I really wanted to put that wash bowl on the dresser but it was my MIL's and l wanted to keep things from my grandparents only on their dresser.
I know its not the most 'compose' photo but when I read your story I can so relate to it, and I can see your memory (with your sister) in this dresser. its the small thing in life which can make us great memories.
@kerenmcsweeney thanks, Keren. It seems you "got it" on this one! you are so right as a photo it is not a very good image at all but the content is what makes this one special for me! I appreciate the comment and your understanding!
Beautiful dresser filled with wonderful mementos. It look like it is in tip top shape too. I just love old furniture especially compared to what they sell nowadays.
What a huge treasure to receive. I love your photo of this dresser and all that came with it that you have out. They sure do not make things like this today. So nice that you finally got it to enjoy.
@marilyn Thanks so much! I ended up moving the two out of the spare room and putting them in the sick room where they fits perfectly and then put Grandma's in the spare room where it also fit perfectly! Win, win all around! I still have some of the bedding it was packed in though.
