I was just taking about sewing with my students. We talk about the steamboat and how then the farmers could easily send cotton upstream to more industrial areas for them to make it into thread and cloth. They said "and clothes" .... I told them wealthy people could by ready to wear clothes but many people bought cloth and made their own. I talked about how great it just be to sew when you want to.
