Lancaster or Look Left!! (encouraged by Gail & Beryl!)
Lancaster, the city from which the county of Lancaster gets it's name.
Lancaster is an ancient settlement located on the River Lune & Lancaster Canal. Dominated by the castle it's quite a hilly town with old house & narrow weinds.
The M6 motorway runs along side & the city is served by the West Coast main line railway so very easily accessible.
There is a great University & there are excellent schools...this means the city is full of young people.
A very compact town there is a one way traffic system & the narrow streets are pedestrianised as seen here. Full of lots of individual shops it is a delightful place to spend an afternoon.
Many of the houses where built in the 19th century when the port of Lancaster was thriving...it was the fourth most important port in the slave trade...not something which Lancaster is proud about!
I live 17 miles from Lancaster but know it quite well now as my mum used to live there & my two grandchildren go to school there. Cathy also works one day a week at the Scholl foot clinic.
I have been trying to catch up a little from my laziness last night...it's surprising how soon you lose track!!
Thank you all for your continued support & lovely encouraging comments!
Three good things:
1. Out for my tea. Sorry I will probably get behind again!!
2. Looking forward to a good chat & catch up with friends.....I'm not driving either so can have a glass of wine!!!
3. I put some of my summer clothes away this morning.
Oh I didn't know that about the slaves - and I've never thought of it as being a port because it's on a river not the coast - but then Preston was too and so was Cambridge!! The Deputy Head of Adam's school is now head of Lancaster Royal Grammar - nice spot to be, right on the edge of The Lakes - he does a lot of running so I'm sure he enjoys the scenery.
Love this wonderful shot of the hustle and bustle in Lancaster...it sounds like a delightful place to live or visit or attend school! Fabulous street scene!
I know what you mean about falling behind with 365, Pat...seems to be the story of my life these days. I guess we do the best we can and have fun with it when we're able. :)
I hope you had a marvelous time with friends for dinner...always a good thing! And good job with the summer clothes ~ I'm still working on my closet switch over. I'm too easily distracted by things that are more fun or interesting. :)
Great shot - if the background buildings were different, you'd think it was the US from their clothes. And we automatically LOOK LEFT for oncoming traffic! I liked the signs in London that said LOOK RIGHT, just before we'd step off the curb and have a close call with being clobbered.
My ....mmm... Step something lives here! She is the daughter of my mothers second husband! I am at a loss to know what to call her. Anyway she loves Lancaster and writes sometimes a lot about it so its nice to see part of it here,
