Hawkshead Methodist chapel converted from a 15 century cottage in 1862. A small group of local Christian’s worshipped at the Union Chapel. The benefactor was a Mrs Satterthwaite & in 1926 the chapel was passed to the local Wesleyan Methodist conference making it the oldest building used for Methodist worship in the World.
It looks much as it did then & the American harmonium, over 100 years old is still played.
Tucked away in the corner of the village it remains very much as it did in the 1900’s.
How quaint , and lovely place of worship - It creates the feel of friendliness without pomp and ceremony - A place I would like to worship in ! And what a great history !
