The Swans had three eggs in their precarious nest built on the edge of the debris drain for the lake, in bad weather the water rushes under the bridge behind from another lake. We are all guessing the missing eggs have gone this way...Many water birds land on the drain & it is a busy place. We do hope this one egg will survive... Here Muma has been shifting sticks around & rolled the egg a little....Wonderful to see
I'm a bit puzzled......do your swans lay their eggs in the autumn. It seems odd that they're laying their eggs at the same time as our swans are laying theirs.
In Australia, Black Swans breed from February to September – sometimes in large colonies. Swans breed in fresh water marshes, ponds, lakes & along slow flowing rivers. Usually in the Australian autumn (March - April) or in winter, the female lays eggs - sometimes before the nest is even completed. In the north-eastern part of Australia, it is usually February, and in the western parts it often is in August. Eggs are laid every other day until the clutch is complete.
