Sadly The Last Cygnet Has Been Taken ~

Saw the cygnet yesterday but, today Dad & Mum are on their own again.

After surviving the nest built on a refuse grate.
Many storms washing through the nest.
Three eggs hatching out of five.
They must feel the loss.
I am so sad...
This is so so sad

What a shame. Animals are such good parents, but often have such little control over what happens.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Oh Jackie they struggled through so much.. I've not seen that happen here but google tells me IN SOUTH-EASTERN QUEENSLAND
Birds were recorded breeding throughout the year with some pairs breeding twice, three or even four times in the same year, often having two generations of cygnets on the water at the same time.

Oh my, that is sad. Is it predator birds that get them? Hopefully better luck next season.

Loved the photo - but then I read your words - so sad. Loved seeing your Black Swans when we visited AU several years ago.
